NOVO OGARYOVO, Russia, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Russia's authorities should revive the old Cold War practice of training civilians on how to respond in the event of a large-scale nuclear attack, a senior government official said on Friday.
Speaking after a meeting of Russia's Security Council chaired by President Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Rogozin, the deputy prime minister in charge the defence industry, said the United States was upsetting the nuclear balance by developing new weapons systems.
Russia had no choice but to react to the aggressive capabilities of the United States, he said.

(2,208 posts)Training for a one off "terrorist" nuclear attack or training for WWIII? There is no training adequate to address the latter.

(12,618 posts)Pointless training that is designed to do one thing, keep the population afraid. That what it was when we did it, and that's what it is when they do it. There is no training that's going to matter in the event of nuclear war. Your best bet will be to pray you're one of the ones that dies quickly.
