Colorado recall targets conservative school board members

DENVER (AP) — Angry parents and educators in a Colorado battleground county are trying to recall three conservative school board members Tuesday, citing several complaints, including a change in how teachers get pay raises and talk of reviewing the history curriculum to promote patriotism.

The idea prompted students to walk out of class and protest in the streets last year. Teachers staged sick-outs, the Jefferson County district claimed.

The board members facing recalls cruised to victory in 2013, but their arrival quickly caused a stir. The superintendent of the school district, Cindy Stevenson, left days after their election, saying she felt disrespected by them and couldn't do her job anymore.

Then came a decision to tie teacher pay increases to performance rather than seniority, and accusations that the three conservatives on the five-member board were meeting privately before scheduled meetings. Ken Witt, Julie Williams and John Newkirk have repeatedly denied holding secret meetings.

was were I use to live and I really do like Colorado.

I now see from the distance how the corruption is from the outside interests are really taking the state down the wrong path, by the likes of the Kochs. and other "rich" jerks, and I am glad that you and thousand of others in the state are seeing what these hypocrites are trying to do.
If Coloradans don't think it can happen, they should look at one town in Wisconsin and what they did there with the school board and a city called Ironwood Wisconsin.

This is what happens when individuals got there money from there father who sided with a man (Stalin) that killed thousands in the Gulags of death and blood.

Having morons on the school board is a sure way to screw up an entire generation.

I grew up in Jefferson County. Haven't lived there in about 25 years when I left home for college and haven't lived in Colorado since '03. Still have a lot of family there.

My brother is a public school teacher in neighboring Douglas County. He says ALEC has pretty much taken over the school boards. He loathes them with every ounce of his being and is about ready to throw in the towel on his teaching career because of them. Sad, because he loves the classroom.

Run their sorry asses off. This is how liberals can start to take back the country from the ignorant bigots, one step at a time.

This is the essence of the modern Republican party. They want to be behind the boot. They don't realize that they are just as likely to be behind the face. They are in denial, and ignorance perpetuates that.
