Saudi Arabia breaks off ties with Iran after al-Nimr execution

Source: BBC

Saudi Arabia says it has broken off diplomatic ties with Iran, amid a row over the Saudi execution of a prominent Shia Muslim cleric.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir was speaking after demonstrators had stormed the Saudi embassy in Tehran.

Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr and 46 others were executed on Saturday. Saudi Arabia found them guilty of "terrorism".

Mr Jubeir said that all Iranian diplomats must leave Saudi Arabia within 48 hours.

Everyone should sever ties with SA.

Of course the US instead just gave them over 1 Billion more in weaponry. And has been helping them bomb countless civilians in Yemen.

But still. At least Iran is doing the right thing.

It's the other way around.

And it's also not good at all.

From Al Jazeera:

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Joseph Kechichian, a Middle East analyst, said Saudi's decision was "quite a surprise".

"This is an escalation that will create havoc in the region," he said.

Ellie Geranmayeh, an Iran expert at the European Council on Foreign Relations, also said that the severing of diplomatic relations will also likely have repercussions in the region particularly the Syrian negotiations.

"Western powers must increase efforts to safeguard this process and encourage Saudi and Iran to continue participation," she told Al Jazeera.

"These events further set back the urgently needed rapprochement between Tehran and Riyadh and spell further trouble for an already fragile region."

who (or what interests) viced the Saudi's balls in a clamp to have made such a stoopid (co-erced) error in judgement or to have played a part. The 99%'s have no affect in world affairs when so much money is slushing around the top

This is rather similar to the Turkish shoot-down of the Russian jet. It's like war-hungry types are taking over.

No matter how much dumbfuck chest thumping the reich wing does we need to stay out of this. We already stuck our noses in where they didn't belong with Iraq and we're still paying for that one.
