Militia groups meet with leaders of Oregon occupation, pledge support
Source: Reuters
Members of self-styled militia groups met on Friday with armed protesters occupying a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon, pledging support for their cause, if not their methods, and offering to act as a peace-keeping force in the week-long standoff over land rights.
During the 30-minute meeting at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, a leader of the occupation, Ammon Bundy, told about a dozen representatives of such groups as Pacific Patriots Network, Oath Keepers and III% that he had no immediate plans to abandon the siege.
"I was asked to do this by the Lord," said Bundy, a Mormon, as some of the militia members nodded in understanding. "I did it how he told me to do it."
Earlier on Friday the Pacific Patriots Network called on its members to establish a safety perimeter around the refuge in remote southeastern Oregon to prevent a "Waco-style situation" from unfolding.

Can you imagine if PETA, OWS, and Black Lives Matter had done so much as occupy a bench along some federal parkland trail?

(21,126 posts)Rather than giving them the (probably costly) confrontation they desire, they seem to be letting them living in self-made harsh conditions and will probably arrest them individually at a more opportune time.
That said, I don't know why the 2014 confrontation went without charges and arrests (at least that i am aware of). This may be wishful thinking on my part.

(51,129 posts)What is happening is they are not getting the one thing they sought, confrontation to make headlines. Instead, they are the new joke of the planet, and it just keeps getting more absurd. They are giving militia such a bad name the real militia had to show up and try to end this.
They screwed up and are not getting what they want. In good time they will be indicted and served. I'm sure they know their demands are futile, they can't win. They still want a fight. Don't give them what they want. Let them continue showing the world how stupid they are. Meanwhile, evidence continues being assembled.

(794 posts)This is the perfect opportunity. While the Bundys are preoccupied in Oregon, the Federal Marshals and BLM agents in Nevada should go to round up all the cattle being illegally grazed by the Bundys on public land. This was the effort that was aborted 2 years ago.
The cattle can be taken to the processing center and the payment to the Bundys can be taken in partial fulfillment of their $1 Million debt.
After their ordeal in Oregon, when they return to Nevada they will find themselves in compliance with the law.
I am sure this will give them much peace of mind.

allowed nobody and nothing in or out. The government is abetting and encouraging criminal activity by this, now and in the future. The message that if you show up with enough guns and camo, and make enough threats, you can do anything you want, and the Feds won't touch you.

(4,030 posts)"I was asked to do this by the Lord" BS! Really? Show me the actual memo. I would think that this would be world wide news - a militia moron who actually had a conversation with the big guy? Where was CNN? Maybe what this idiot meant to say was, " I was asked to do this by my empty bottle of Jack Daniels". That makes just about as much sense.

(51,129 posts)The arrival of 20 more armed men at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge headquarters Saturday added kindling to a potentially combustible mix, raising concerns that law enforcement's low-key response to the situation might backfire.
Authorities have had no visible presence at the headquarters compound since a splinter group of militants left a protest in Burns and took over the refuge compound 30 miles south of Burns seven days ago. Federal authorities have had next to nothing to say about their response to the occupation.
Observers say the FBI, which has jurisdiction over the federal refuge, has been deliberately patient. After deadly confrontations in Waco, Texas, and Ruby Ridge, Idaho, during the 1990s, authorities have adopted a "wait-them-out" response to similar situations in hopes of preventing another conflagration.
If authorities wait too long, though, they risk losing control of the situation creating a more dangerous or protracted confrontation. ............
Good comments. And plenty of bad comments too.
Are these YeeHawdist paranoid because they were home schooled or because they use Crystal Meth?
