Hillary Clinton Calls for End to Immigration Raids
Source: NBC News
by Suzanne Gamboa
Democrat Hillary Clinton on Monday called on the Obama administration to stop raids at homes of Central American immigrant families and provide attorneys for all children who arrived at the U.S.-Mexico border without parents.
Clinton had been facing criticism from her Democratic primary rivals Bernie Sanders and Martin O'Malley for not taking a tough stand against the raids that the administration began New Year's weekend and have led to the arrest of at least 121 individuals.
She issued the call Monday night to coincide with her appearance at Iowa's "Brown & Black Forum." The forum, which began in 1984, allowed for each Democratic candidate to separately address minority communities and respond to questions from journalists and the audience. A Republican version was to be held but was canceled.

The immigration raids Clinton criticized have targeted families that arrived in the U.S. since may 2014, when the country saw tens of thousands of Central American immigrants arrive at the border seeking refuge from violence and economic conditions in their country.

(1,859 posts)Latino vote. I don't trust her for it to be more than lip service if she gets elected. I would hope she'd mean it, but then I lost total faith in her when she was in congress, gave lip service and voted against the liberal dems on nearly every single issue.

(1,524 posts)Bernie has already been speaking out against the raids. It is Clinton who just joined him (which I applaud).

I think Facebook doesn't show everything... I remember seeing a video on there of him speaking about the raids. But here's a news story from December:

Immigration raids are sowing discord and fear among our communities. We should end them. #DemForum

(117 posts)These are people who have been ordered by an immigration judge to be deported. Either they've made a case and a judge deemed them ineligible to stay or they just didn't show up to court.
If the latter, I would support the opportunity for these people to make their case, but if the former, they've been afforded due process and the administration is enforcing a administrative law judge's order, which is as valid as any other legal determination by a judge and should be enforced.

(1,499 posts)almost a week late. Yes, it is one of the two issues where Hillary can join progressives without alienating her Rockefeller Republican fan base.
BUT this is a matter of fundamental human rights and, REGARDLESS OF HER MOTIVE, I cannot be happier that Hillary can FEEL THE BERN on this one.
