ISTANBUL One person has been arrested in connection with a suicide bombing that rocked the heart of Istanbuls central tourist district, Turkish officials announced on Wednesday, as German officials confirmed that 10 German tourists had been killed in the attack.
The Turkish interior minister, Efkan Ala, announced the arrest, but he provided no details about the suspect.
The suicide bomber who died in the attack on Tuesday morning and has been identified only as a Syrian man born in 1988, with ties to the Islamic State was not on Turkeys list of terrorism suspects. He had recently entered Turkey from Syria and had registered with an immigration office, Mr. Ala said during a joint news conference on Wednesday with his German counterpart, Thomas de Maizière.
Mr. de Maizière said there were no indications that the attack was specifically directed against Germans, who account for one in six foreign tourists in Turkey.
