The Nation endorses Bernie Sanders

For just the third time its history, liberal magazine The Nation has endorsed a presidential candidate: Bernie Sanders.
The endorsement comes on the heels of news the Vermont senator is reporting record fundraising hauls, and of his endorsement by MoveOn, the liberal advocacy organization.
"Bernie Sanders and his supporters are bending the arc of history toward justice, the magazines editors wrote, praising Sanders' positions on minimum wage, healthcare, education, Wall Street, and foreign policy. Theirs is an insurgency, a possibility, and a dream that we proudly endorse.
While the editors endorsed Sanders, the endorsement acknowledged Sanders path to the presidency isnt perfectly clear; he opposes Hillary Clinton in the primary, and, the magazines editors noted, he lacks deep support among minority voters. But the endorsement stressed what it characterized as the independence of his campaign.

(17,505 posts)I'm squarely for Sanders.... but it's not over 'til it's over.
Don't fall into the hubris hole with the Hillary supporters.
But this was inevitable as soon as enough people knew who Sanders was. Clinton has been riding on name recognition, gender, and mythology from the get go. But even DWS's lousy debate schedule could not stop....only delay a bit, the inevitable.

(99,581 posts)After Nancy Pelosi stood up to Obama on TPP there are a lot of DUers that wish Obama had been primaried by her in 2012!
And it is I believe just the third time in 150 years for an endorsement. It is a progressive publication after all.

From the article:
We believe such a revolution is not only possible but necessaryand thats why were endorsing Bernie Sanders for president. This magazine rarely makes endorsements in the Democratic primary (weve done so only twice: for Jesse Jackson in 1988, and for Barack Obama in 2008). We do so now impelled by the awareness that our rigged system works for the few and not for the many.

What I wrote was just so horrible!
At least I didn't use the "F" word....
BTW...I would guess that a randomly chosen jury "saved" me...not some nonexistent "Bernie Mob". (are 7 or less people a mob?)

Election '08
In his stands on the issues, Dennis Kucinich comes closest to embodying the ideals of this magazine. He has been a forceful critic of the Bush Administration, opposing the Patriot Act and spearheading the motion to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney. He is the only candidate to have voted against the Iraq War in 2003 and has voted against funding it ever since. Of all the serious candidates, only he and Governor Bill Richardson propose a full and immediate withdrawal from Iraq. And only Kucinich's plan sets aside funds for reparations. Moreover, Kucinich has used his presidential campaigns to champion issues like cutting the military budget and abolishing nuclear weapons; universal, single-payer healthcare; campaign finance reform; same-sex marriage and an end to the death penalty and the war on drugs. A vote for him would be a principled one.
But for reasons that have to do with the corrupting influence of money and media on national elections as well as with his campaign's shortcomings--such as its failure to organize a grassroots base of donors and web activists--a democratic mass movement has not coalesced around Kucinich's run for President. The progressive vision is there, but the strategy necessary to win and then govern is lacking. In most cases, the rules of the Iowa caucus require that a candidate reach 15 percent of the vote to achieve "viability"; supporters of candidates who fail to do so can choose another candidate. Simply put, many Iowans will soon face a question that the rest of us may have to answer later: if not Dennis, then who.

(11,197 posts)Sorry to burst your bubble, but the fact remains that The Nation magazine has formally issued only three endorsements in a presidential race in their history.
The article referred to explicitly states that The Nation is not endorsing anyone. Apparently in your hurry to post a link you neglected to read the entire article.
