Bundy: Meeting between armed group, locals may not happen

Keith Ridler, Associated Press

Updated 2:37 pm, Thursday, January 14, 2016

BURNS, Ore. (AP) — The leader of an armed group occupying a national wildlife refuge said Thursday that they may not have a meeting with local residents because the group can't find a place for the gathering.

The group protesting federal land policies had planned to hold a meeting Friday evening in Burns to explain themselves and tell residents when they will leave.

Leader Ammon Bundy told reporters the meeting is now in doubt because Harney County officials won't let them use the fairgrounds, as they had hoped.

"It's still in limbo," Bundy said. "We're still going to have it. It's just a matter of when and where."

Fire Chief Chris Briels resigned "because he feels intimidated and betrayed by local officials"???

From all I've read about this illegal takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, the only intimidation ever mentioned has come from Ammon Bundy & his pals.

Also, if Bundy & pals do find a place to "meet' with the locals, and then leave the refuge to go to the meeting, what makes them think that they will be able to re-enter the refuge after the meeting?

It's the only Federal Correctional facility in Oregon, and only about 288 miles due west. I'm sure that some of the folks (mostly employed by local, county, state, and federal agencies) hanging around watching this low-grade circus would be happy to provide transportation.

Best of all, they'd still be 'occupying' a federal building (unfortunately, at OUR expense).

I'm starting to think this is not going to end peacefully.

If anyone is interested...it's too much for me to parse and post tongiht, but here are the links:

Months before Malheur occupation, another Oregon land dispute galvanized militants
This story essentially tells of the building momentum of this militant activity, bouncing back and forth between Oregon and Nevada.

Armed occupiers promise plan to leave Harney County but signal longer stay
This story indicates they aren't leaving till they have their phony trial and may even try to arrest some of the people they hold responsible. In other words, they are not leaving yet.
