Probation ordered for gun buyer in Jewish site killings

Updated 3:03 pm, Thursday, January 14, 2016

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A southern Missouri man has been sentenced to five years of probation for purchasing one of the shotguns that a white supremacist used in a deadly attack at two Jewish sites in suburban Kansas City.

Forty-nine-year-old John Mark Reidle, of Aurora, was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Springfield. He previously admitted to falsely claiming he was buying the gun for himself on a federal form on April 9, 2014.

Four days later, convicted killer Frazier Glenn Miller killed three people in Overland Park, Kansas. Miller said he was targeting Jews but none of the victims were Jewish.

The Joplin Globe (http://bit.ly/1ZnjPND ) reports that Judge Beth Phillips said Miller took advantage of Reidle's limited intellectual ability.

Your opinion is of course right if Reidle was of the mental capacity to make decisions for himself. "Limited Intellectual Ability" means he too could have been a victim.

I have no idea, I don't know the guy, but it all depends on what he is capable of understanding.

By this measure, shouldn't the guy in San Bernardino also get probation?

Probably not, seeing as he is associated with Muslims, where in this case the killer was a white guy.

I hope if I ever do something bad, I find a nice judge like this one, or the affluenza judge. But with my luck, I'll find one that gives me a 5 year sentence for possessing a few grams of weed.

Perhaps if the Federal government started trying and convicting more of the straw purchasers..............

and if the gun's used in a homicide, straw buying would be a predicate felony.

I would think that in this case, where three innocent people were murdered in cold blood, partly thanks to this creep, the prosecutor might want to appeal this horrible decision by Judge Beth Phillips.

Also, if, as she said, "Miller (the killer) took advantage of Reidle's limited intellectual ability"...then perhaps gun laws need to be strengthened or changed so as to not allow anyone with "limited intellectual ability" to buy guns in the first place.

K&R, thanks for posting

Nailed it, that part stuck out when I read the article also. We have some seriously fucked up gun laws (but no worry, the firearms industry made a healthy profit on the transaction so all is well).

permitted to buy a gun in the first place? If his judgement is so terribly impaired, it makes no sense.
