California fines Uber $7.6 million on rider, driver reports

Source: AP

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — California fined Uber's state subsidiary $7.6 million on Thursday for allegedly failing to provide regulators with enough detailed information on the ride-hailing company's drivers and riders.

Thursday's decision by the California Public Utilities Commission upholds a ruling by a state administrative law judge, and it raises the $7.3 million penalty and fine that the judge had recommended.

Thursday's order found Rasier-CA, the California branch of Uber, in contempt for allegedly failing to provide detailed operational data as soon as the state wanted it. The order gives the company 30 days to pay or have the state suspend the company's license to operate in California.

A money hungry company, mostly rude drivers who are obsessed with their time.

I'll never use them again.

That's the Orwellian bit about this to all me: find me a single criticism of Uber that doesn't apply, in spades, to medallion cab services.

Uber hangs their drivers out to dry in several ways. But it seems UberFans don't want to hear it. Or they just want to justify Uber's shittiness to their drivers as "Taxis suck too!".

Uber has put drivers into financial peril by not REQUIRING drivers to have proper insurance, and not adequately informing them of the risk of cancellation and non-coverage. The Gekko especially hates your rideshare app.

They have failed to warn drivers that they may be ticketed and towed for picking up at the airport.

Rates in Detroit have dropped to 30 cents a mile in Detroit, which means people are paying, not getting paid, to drive in Detroit.

I was one of the first Uber drivers in Tampa. They're VERY abusive of workers, and they don't pay shit. I quit after 2 months, the second time they cut our rates (our pay), no response to problems, software glitches, no tipping...ad infinitum.

Fuck Uber. Working for bartender wages with no tips.

4. So we're out on the curb, upper level, LAX...

Last Sunday around 7PM...busy as hell, like usual.

And we're watching a ton of cars with mustaches in the front window (don't know which one this is)...it was crazy...so we watch one, stop about 20 feet past us and then jam it into reverse, going around a vehicle coming at him and then crossing 2 lanes to the curb between 2 other cars all in reverse.

Those of us out there were stunned and had never seen such a thing done...ever. These cars stop any place and pull into park in red zones, hell, any zone. And where the hell was that worthless LAXPD? No place to be seen...

It's become like a demolition derby out there since they approved these companies.
