Chris Christie: Keep the White House out of the cafeteria

Source: CBS News

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - If Chris Christie becomes the next president schools probably won't be required or even encouraged to serve lunches filled with fruits and vegetables.

That's because Christie said he doesn't believe the president should have a say in school lunches. Those, he told voters in Council Bluffs, Iowa should be up to the parents.

"Doesn't the president of the United States have anything better to do than to worry about what you are having for lunch? Let me tell you this, I don't care," Christie said Monday when 11-year-old Jacob Royal, who traveled from Nebraska to hear Christie speak, asked the New Jersey governor what he would do to make the lunches better.

"They were fine when Mrs. Bush was the First Lady but now that Mrs. Obama is the First Lady they have gone down," Royal said when he asked Christie how he was going to fix school lunches.

Why deny current schoolkids the potential future of being governor of their state, or even President?

Assuming they live that long on that diet.

They probably don't want kids growing up healthy at all.

This way, they become shackled to the health care rackets later in life (diabetes, heart disease, etc.). And besides, an unhealthy kid will probably also have serious self-esteem issues - which is exactly the kind of voter they want later on.

So much bad faith in this world.

“The factors that we use to measure and evaluate people to join the Army increasingly they’re not able to meet those requirements. It’s very troubling, and the trends are not in the good direction -- especially in regards to fitness. Young people are showing up at our doors increasingly unfit or obese and it’s, it’s a real problem.”

That guy is fatter than I am, and you won't see me wearing any spandex in public. I love it when he gets all red in the face. I just wish he would show some compassion for school kids. Just because he's a blimp doesn't mean kids have to end up the same way. I think he has some anger issues about his weight.

Well, a year and a half.

Whole grain, not so much fat or salt or sugar, more vegetables.

In some cases it's more expensive. It's certainly harder to deal with in a lot of ways.

The cafeterias serve it. Kids don't necessarily eat it. Even I stopped eating what my school's cafeteria serves. Whole wheat no-salt crackers with the salad? Orange chicken, low salt, with brown rice?

The fix wasn't a solution. But it made a lot of people feel good, even as students started stopping for Chick-fil-A on the way to school, stepping out for pizza or burgers during lunch (and missing a class), or bringing in more food and soft drinks. It was a month after the students realized that the weird cafeteria food was here to stay that we lost the battle against food and drink in our classrooms--cookies, chips, candy, etc., etc. became common because many kids simply stopped eating at lunch time.

Really cut down on student group fundraising, too. Can't sell anything for delivery during the school day that can be eaten and violates the guidelines. Sell cookie dough? You have to sell only to staff or make sure it's only picked up by students after the school day's over.

Most obesity is from what's eaten at home and from low levels of physical activity.

He wasn't even eating school lunches during the Bush years.

The kid had to have been fed the question by his parents or someone else wanting to make Christie look "strong" by taking a firm position on school lunches (which the White House has absolutely no control over).

Besides, Chris Christie is the worst person ever to advocate for uncontrolled gluttony.

Nevertheless, the rest of us who carry excessive poundage might feel that it is unfair to criticize someone for being fat.

With Christie, there are many other things to criticize that are related to his character, not his body.

I've learned that, in politics, thick skin helps. If you are comfortable with yourself, body shaming means nothing. I've dealt with it for years.

I consider the source and move on. Don't let it bother you. If I'm called fat, I just say it's storage for sexual energy for your wife and my girlfriend. Ends the stupidity fast!

not a clue.

He knows kids just throw their packed lunches away than go buy whatever the school is serving up.
He knows all about it. He knows because he has seen pictures of happy kids in Patterson New Jersey throwing away their packed lunches only to stand in line coin in hand to buy lunch ,he knows ,he has seen it.
