A hospital in Flint, Michigan, reported Friday that low levels of Legionnaires' disease bacteria were discovered in its water system.
The discovery came after the city switched its water supply and the medical staff noticed an increase in people coming in for treatment who were diagnosed with Legionnaires,' McLaren Hospital said.

McLaren Hospital said it has taken corrective measures with its water supply.
All testing shows the hospital water supply "is well within safety and quality standards," the hospital statement said, and no tests show McLaren was the source of Legioinnaires' disease.
The hospital report is the latest negative news about the Flint water supply and the second piece of news about Legionnaires' disease.

(13,452 posts)It's almost as though they want confuse readers that during the first switch to Flint river water that hospitals noticed the rise in Legionnaires and there might be fewer cases now that they are back on Detroit's treated lake-sourced water. Although a decrease now could be due to the colder season.

(26,259 posts)There used to be four - McLaren, Hurley, St. Joseph and Flint Osteopathic. The last two merged into one called Genesys, and moved out of the city, to the southern part of the county, right smack in the middle of a cluster of middle, upper middle and upper class suburbs. They are in no way affected by the water issue. It is owned by the Ascension group - a not for profit Catholic organization.
Hurley is the public, or 'city owned' hospital. It is a very, very good hospital, although many think of it as the place where the 'poor people' go. They have a fantastic burn unit, cancer center and heart clinic. Really a top notch place.
McLaren is part of a massive corporation that started with this hospital and has been gobbling up hospitals from all over the state. The are huge proponents of privatizing hospitals.
