Biden: US And Turkey Prepared To Seek Syria Military Solution

Source: BBC

US Vice-President Joe Biden has said the US and Turkey are prepared to seek a military solution in Syria if a political agreement proves impossible.

Mr Biden said a political deal "would be better" but "if that's not possible" the US would pursue alternatives.

Mr Biden was speaking after talks in Istanbul with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.

A US official said later Mr Biden's remarks did not imply any change to US policy on Syria.

be pushed to see that a political solution is the answer. I thought this WAS the Obama position - so don't know if this is a misquote or a misunderstanding. I hope it is.

4. I think the political solution they are talking about is regime change.

Our position has always been that Assad must go. That is why we armed the rebels and let Isis be for so long.

This is a dangerous game we play, and the sad part it is under a Democratic administration...and we are supposed to ignore it.

But Syria was one of those 7 countries the neo cons wanted to overthrow and I guess their goals are still valid.

6. I don't want to see us go to war simply because Russia embarrassed us

It is either that or to carve out and "remake" Syria. One of those two things would be what we are going after.

Quite frankly I do not trust our policy in the region. We have made a mess and it seems some of the "mess" is part of the strategy.
No more supporting islamic jihadists to kill other islamic jihadists....

It is not covered in our media but Russia and Syria are making headway and ISIS is now weak. And in so little time. I am suspicious as to why in all this time we could not do the same (and why we allowed the money to flow to ISIS until Russia bombed the Oil convoys and ended it themselves).

9. It may not imply a change in policy.

But it does imply a kind of epiphany.

For years, "There is no military solution. The only solution is political."

Suddenly they contemplate a military solution, entailing that there is at least one that is conceivable.

Are they wrong now or were they wrong before?

Now, what about other places where "there is no military solution"? In one or two of those places the mantra "we will not allow a frozen conflict" has become "we have a frozen conflict and allow that because there is no military solution." Of course, the other side revels in the fact that there was a military solution and still is a military solution.

Gets tedious, this kind of obvious ... I don't even have a decent word for it. Reliance on sycophancy?

13. The Ankara bombings "enabled" a military "solution."

Turkey was wanting to stay out of it until that very moment. A few weeks after it happened the US gave them new planes to play with. If Turkey gets attacked like Ankara again you can expect them to go all in.

without Assad and Russia, and we have to accept that.

Remember Bernie's words about regime change. He is right,
and we see the results not only in the ME, but also in
South America.

When will we ever learn??!!

YOU FOOLS!!!

Stopping IS is impossible unless we get the Sunni Arab population of Syria and Iraq to turn against them. US troops on the group will drive the Sunni Arabs deeper into IS's grip.

The US has run out of bombs and the Russians are dropping them like they have an unlimited supply

The the time a political solution is found Syria will be nothing but rubble and refugees
