Actress Jamie Lee Curtis touted Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and her experience at a gathering in Waukee Sunday afternoon.
Remember the term merit-based?' Curtis said, discussing Clintons political experience as former senator, First Lady and Secretary of State. When you get something because youve earned it? Hillary Clinton is the merit-based candidate in this election.
She later added, Experience will trump everything that was met with applause at the obvious dig at Republican presidential candidate and businessman Donald Trump...................................
Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar also addressed the crowd .....................
"No one tells a little kid that they can't be President of the United States," Klobuchar said. "That's the kind of rhetoric coming from the other side, and that's the kind of kind of rhetoric that Iowa can defeat.".............................

.@HillaryClinton "tough as nails when she needs to be, but weve found her to be warm, funny & without the arrogance displayed by so many"
Another one: Sioux City Journal endorses @HillaryClinton in Iowa caucuses http://siouxcityjournal.com/news/opinion/editorial/article_2b45b476-211d-5930-a787-42b9db8ee92d.html
HILLARY CLINTON
Without question, the 68-year-old Clinton possesses a breadth of experiences in public life unmatched by her Democratic opponents. In the "arena" at the fulcrum of national and international events since the '90s, Clinton requires no on-the-job training. She understands issues and knows leaders, both domestic and foreign, and appreciates the processes and peculiarities of the federal government from the perspective of both the legislative and executive branches.
From children to families to health care to human rights, including women's rights, to marriage equality, Clinton champions issues and positions true to traditional Democratic principles. She bolsters her domestic credentials with foreign policy experience as America's chief diplomat.
Overall, we view her positions as closer to the political center than, certainly, the "democratic socialism" advocated by her most-formidable opponent, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, whose "revolution" of a dramatic increase in the size of government and spending is far too revolutionary for our taste and, we believe, for the taste of most Americans.
Do not diminish, we might add, the value to her candidacy of having husband Bill, a popular former president, as an adviser and campaigner.
................
For today, though, we believe Clinton remains the strongest choice for Democrats within their field of presidential candidates...............................

(3,111 posts)clearly tells me that we are better off with Bernie.
Then there is always this, regarding her experience with POC.

(5,902 posts)is the first word out of the mouth of all losing incumbent candidates, or if he (or she) is the more entrenched one.
To be fair, I certainly don't blame her for using that as talking point. Unfortunately for her though, her experience is public office happens to be a liability as far as most of the crucial independent block of voters is concerned.
And for a lot of Democrats too, frankly.

(3,963 posts)No question about it.

(5,902 posts)he could actually run on having managed the JFK assassination, Air America and Barry Seal, Ollie North's "Enterprise," and the Omaha Boys Club affair, and win.
Best of all, he wouldn't need Willie Horton!

(24,328 posts)She got more air time and was quoted in the media far more often than the President, the Vice-President, the Senate majority and minority leader and the house leadership (both parties) and Mc Cain combined.
Pretty much sums up both Sarah and the media

This makes her untrustworthy.
She has great difficulty telling the truth.
This makes her a liability.

(4,532 posts)reACTIONary
(5,766 posts)... Includes more than "elective" experience. And administrative / executive experience is much more important than legislative experience to the office of the presidency .
Of course, bernie does have some executive experience . He was the mayor of that town in wherever it is. Not as significant as MO'M - mayor of Baltimore and governer of md.
liberalnarb
(4,532 posts)Curtis said that her experience 'trumps' everything. So I was saying that if it was experience we're talking about then Bernie has it.
reACTIONary
(5,766 posts)..... it qualifies "experience" by limiting it to " elective" experience. That then discounts experience in appointed positions such as secretary of state or advising the house judiciary committee during the Watergate inquires. This is one of those deceptive madison Avenue techniques for misleading promotion.
liberalnarb
(4,532 posts)Bernie is more qualified. And it's ELECTED not elective
reACTIONary
(5,766 posts).... a simple munded and deliberate distortion you shouldn't have elective to post it.

(30,247 posts)Two of them naming post offices. Hillary has far more executive experience than Sanders. I would think that having been SOS tops his Congressional experience.

(11,548 posts)Jamie Lee Curtis is an advocate for children and children's hospitals. She has written numerous children's books, and has also done a play that re-enacted the federal trial that overturned Prop 8, called "8". Her film and television career has made her enormously popular.
Curtis is a decent person and a very intelligent one at that. She has endorsed Hillary Clinton because she has concluded that HC deserves it... the "merit-based" candidate.

(24,328 posts)When celebrities endorse Sanders do you take the same tact?
Why would an endorsement from a politician rank higher than a celebrity?
Many politicians I've met are dumber than sand
What kinds of endorsements have meaning for you?
on note: I agree in principle. I couldn't care less if Killer Mike endorsed Sanders or not. Don't care about Jamie Lee Curtis either.

(8,175 posts)At raising money, and that is how the system works now.
But we want to change that.
And in that regard, it's Bernie who has the chops and the experience in fighting against money in politics. He's been trying to do that his whole political life.

(1,859 posts)Actually no.
Break up the too big to fail banks and corporations, put the corporate crooks in jail, end the wars, give us single payer, put Bernie in.
Everything - whether its climate change or the minimum wages, gets nullified if Clinton gets in - simply because of her super pac backers.

(3,252 posts)He is generally rated among the worst presidents ever. He had served in the Pennsylvania legislature, the US House of Representatives, the US Senate, was a Secretary of State under Knox, and was also a foreign minister. While the situation might not be identical as the run up to the Civil War, there are many similarities between then and now. We have a deeply divided country and the same old politics that got us here is not going to get us out. It's time to cut from the old and move on, otherwise it will just get worse.

(50,236 posts)Trump went after Jeb first and Jeb is now at 1% in Iowa. Then he went after Carson. Then Cruz and Rubio. The Donald can lay claim to one thing: the greatest political annihilator ever. Which brings me to what I heard this morning, when he was talking about Hillary and saying he looked forward to running against her "assuming she's not in jail." There you go. That's the attack.
