Donald Trump Foundation to receive all money raised from Veterans' fundraiser.

Source: Blasting News

After Fox News made it clear that popular host Megyn Kelly would remain as a moderator for last Thursday's debate, Republican front runner Donald Trump balked, and canceled his appearance. Blowing off the debate was an unprecedented move; but the former host of "The Apprentice" attempted to counter the bad press by holding a charity for United States military veterans. The Reverb Press reported on January 29, however, that the event isn't as clear as Trump would have you believe.

Skipping the debate, Trump spent time in Iowa just days before the caucus, holding a quickly planned fundraiser event. While Trump celebrated, and often bragged, about raising $6 million for veterans. Reverb Press notes that while the donation page claims "100% of your donations will go directly to Veterans needs," the fine print reads that all donations will actually be forwarded to Donald Trump's non-profit foundation.

While it's unknown whether or not Trump's foundation will donate part or all of the money to veterans, Reverb Press also showed that between 2009 and 2013, the billionaire real estate mogul donated over $5 million to charity; but only $57,000 to veterans' groups. In comparison, Trump sent as much as $250,000 to the Clinton foundation during that same time period.

While the Trump campaign continued to promote their fundraiser, many veterans weren't too pleased. Paul Riekhoff, the founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), took to Twitter and promised to decline any donation from Trump's event, citing his use of veterans as a "political stunt."

1. If that's what the fine print says,

(that funds go to Trump's foundation), maybe it should go from fine print to big bold letters on billboards all over the next several primary states.

Riekhoff's comment appears entirely right-on.

This is good to know. It's discouraging that Trump may be even worse than we thought, just because he's so bad already he can barely be tolerated. And now this.

2. It's common knowledge that Trump, for all his bluster, has been very reticent to spend his own money

But rather limits himself to his relatively small haul of campaign contributions.

It's starting to look as though most of last night's $6 million will be gobbled up by the campaign as well - minus a token donation to his phantom NGO "Vets for a Strong America," I'm sure.

I know a lot of our Republican friends would be shocked to hear this; but it wouldn't be the first time Trump pulled a scam like this. He's one slippery customer.

3. Yes. It's as despairing to know as it

is valuable to know, but Trump's reputation isn't exactly on the rise with progressives.

I don't think any of us liked him to begin with, but the list of why we distrust him keeps getting longer by the hour.

There are a lot of veterans on the Republican voting rolls in South Carolina, for example. His GOP opponents could make very good use of this information if they wanted to.

5. He's certainly making it easy with scams like this one.

I must admit, I appreciate Trump for one thing: he almost singlehandedly derailed Jeb(!) Bush's chances for the nomination.

I still believe that if, God forbid, Jeb were to clinch the nomination, his father would have called in every favor he could to make sure his son won the election itself - and that would be, as you know, potentially cataclismic.

9. Yep. Poppy's getting a bit long of tooth

these days.

And Jeb's campaign seemed to have the pedigree early on but he fell ass over teacups right out of the gate and by mid-autumn, his polling had tanked beyond rescue.

Agree with you -- Trump has just squished Jeb, making poor Jeb say things like "I eat nails for breakfast." I think progressive always considered Jeb Bush something of a pathetic fool, but Trump made quick work of things and demonstrated it once and for all.

And this past week Jeb has been digging Terri Schiavo up from her grave. Did I mention that progressives think he's a pathetic fool?

It looks like Jeb's best shot in Iowa might be fourth or fifth.

...being at the front of the pack, being 4th of 5th should make him very happy.

19. The foundations circulate money between themselves and it inflates their books. A shell game

A gives $1 Meg to B, B give $1 Meg to C, and C gives $1 Meg to A. They have all kept their money and not lost a dime, but on paper it looks as each got $1 Meg more than they really did and gave out $1 Meg more than they really did.

A shell game.

23. charities are required to allow the public to view their IRS reports, go to the foundation and look.

I know a person who's a CEO for charities, she makes about $70k a year plus good benefits. Others like a lawyer for the Foundation make more. Some on the board of directors don't take any 'pay'.

businessman. Yeah, that's the ticket, it supports one veteran businessman. And anyone who calls him a liar, it just a LOSER, because he's super talented, and I mean that. I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it.
