Hillary Clinton Dominates Super Tuesday Races
Source: Wall Street Journal
Hillary Clinton won sweeping primary victories throughout the South on Super Tuesday, a sign that the Democratic front-runner was vaulting to a commanding lead in the race for the presidential nomination and leaving rival Bernie Sanders diminishing space to stage a comeback.
Mr. Sanders captured his home state of Vermont and Oklahoma. But Mrs. Clinton easily won the delegate-rich Southern states of Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Arkansas, as well as Texas, the Associated Press projecteda testament to the continued loyalty of African-American voters who are a sizable share of the Democratic electorate.
What a super Tuesday! Mrs. Clinton said in celebration from Florida, which hosts a primary later in the month. In an unmistakable reference to the slogan of Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump, who was having his own strong night, she said, America has never stopped being great.
Her speech continued to target Mr. Trump.

(80 posts)No one is on here gloating about the wins, just take it easy and move forward.

(3,764 posts)"Hillary Clinton Dominates Super Tuesday Races" sounds like gloating. Perhaps not by anyone here, but by the writer of that headline at least, and whatever editor decided to send it to press.

(5,668 posts)Dominating would mean he wins his home state. Looks like he's set to win 3-4 maybe more

(5,902 posts)Hillary's people are in an awful hurry to frame the evening's narrative. Five out eleven states would be a very good showing for Bernie, considering the states in play.

(1,033 posts)Note that she won my home state (Alabama) by nearly as big a margin as Sen. Sanders won Vermont, with much more delegates at stake.
Just a great night for the Clinton camp.

(57,936 posts)What relevance does Alabama have to the November election?
The voters in Alabama need to work hard to try to turn their state blue.
Otherwise, their preference in the primary doesn't really mean much.

Sorry, but I'm in California, and we don't vote until June 7. We vote Democratic in presidential elections. We matter. Our preference matters.
This system in which the primaries are held on different dates in different states is extremely unfair to people in states that vote last.
California has 546, yes, 546 delegates to the national convention.
Alabama has all of 60.
It's a long way until this primary is over.

(31,222 posts)nearly impossible to overcome. After tonight, she'll have nearly 600 more delegates than BS.
Credit to riversedge for posting:
Hillary Clintons landslide margins in the South and her competitiveness elsewhere translate to an overall lead of around 15 to 20 percentage points nationwide. Her support is anchored by a huge advantage among black voters, who represent nearly a quarter of Democratic voters and have offered her more than 80 percent of their votes a tally rivaling or even exceeding the share won by Barack Obama in 2008.
Mr. Sanders, despite pockets of strength, has not fared well enough to overcome such a huge deficit among black voters.

Who Will Win Super Tuesday? Live Estimates of Tonights Final Democratic Results
Not even a few feel-good wins in states like Colorado, Minnesota and Oklahoma would change that. Mr. Sanders would need big wins in these states by much more than 20 percentage points to entertain the possibility of overcoming his enormous deficit in the South, where the majority of Democrats are African-American.............................

(57,936 posts)Vermont by 72, yes, 72 points according to this:
http://www.nytimes.com/elections/results
Virginia might possibly vote Democratic in November. Alabama, Georgia and Texas probably won't although there is a small chance of a success in Texas. Tennessee and Arkansas probably won't either. Maybe Arkansas will, but . . . .
the big win tonight was Bernie's.
Hillary won in conservative, Confederate states. What good will that do Democrats? They will vote for Cruz, Rubio or Trump, not for any Democrat in November.
Bernie has shown he has tremendous appeal in northern states.
Feel the Bern!
