Democrats appear to take Senate; Walker plans bipartisan summit

Madison - A triumphant Gov. Scott Walker will meet with his cabinet Wednesday on jobs and start planning a Wisconsin-style bipartisan summit with lawmakers over brats and beer.
But for at least six months, it appears that he could have to accommodate a newly Democratic Senate. Republicans needed to win all four state Senate recall races Tuesday to hold onto that house but were declared winners in only three of those contests.
According to the unofficial tally by The Associated Press, GOP Sen. Van Wanggaard of Racine trailed by 779 votes to Democratic challenger and former Sen. John Lehman. The race has not been called by The Associated Press nor conceded by Wanggaard, though Democrats have declared victory.

If the Democrats do their job this will be almost as good as removing Walker.
But will they have the balls to be as obstructionist as the GOP can be?

So now he wants, er, NEEDS... to be bipartisan?
Lying, hypocritical piece of crap!!! He can't get shit done without the legislature behind him. I hope the WI Senate gets very creative.

(37,313 posts)is repub speak for "My Way or the Highway!". "Compromise" is when the Democrat in the discussion commits suicide.
He's a busy guy. He has to fuck over a lot of people before the indictment comes down.

(8,507 posts)This is all about looking bipartisan without actually having to be bipartisan. Especially since they aren't going to do a damn thing in the legislature until after the November election, Wanker has no reason to expect he'll ever be called to account for this supposed bipartisan meeting.

(437 posts)if Wisconsin is serious about stopping this, that might be a move to consider. The American Revolution was won by a smaller minority.

(31,970 posts)And it won't be in session until after the next set of elections in November. So there is nothing to be "obstructionist" about.

(5,668 posts)Scott must see a threat somewhere. Otherwise the Brats would be silly. I'm thinking an arrest in the John Doe probe might cause a special session. and thats where the threat lies. So if he were um put up on the John Doe charges for stealing from the vets... that might be a problem if the state senate is not in his hands.

(31,970 posts)I don't know of the status of the investigation and I doubt anyone here knows either. I have seen a lot of predictions here about various people (Rove, etc.) about to be indicted and it usually does not turn out to be true.

(8,507 posts)Their last session ended prematurely (as I expect most things do with Scott Walker), when one of the recalled Repub state senators resigned the minute the papers were filed, leaving the senate split. Immediately, they stopped considering any further legislation.
So, yeah, this win is a big block. And if they can keep the majority, there will be no problem using their power to continue to obstruct Walker's Kochaine habit.

(31,970 posts)If they had won all the seats they would have held the senate --not took it back. If he he wanted a special session he would have called it before the elections not after. What would be the reason for a special session? The budget has been passed.

(8,507 posts)I can't buy it.
Secondly, the way they are crowing even though they didn't regain control tells me they would have have had no inhibitions about reconvening in special session not only to finish up the check list from the regular session but to come up with a little more red meat to reward/motivate the base for November.
But you are welcome to your own opinion.

(3,974 posts)And unfortunately, it will be very, very difficult for Democrats to force any kind of special session.
This bipartisan window dressing will fade away quickly. No doubt Walker has his post election orders for privatizing the state and ensuring Republican/Corporate rule for as long as possible.
edit: oops, didn't former9thward's post...

(39,405 posts)Republicans know demographics are going to kill them eventually, and the wealthy know that the democratization of information is going to make rule by the few to the detriment of the many very difficult in not much more time.
So the plan is to smash and grab, transfer as much of the commons into their hands as they can now, so taking it back will look like commie expropriation, and destroy protections for working people so they take that much longer to rebuild.
The rich should see that an FDR in the White House or at the state level would serve their interests bests by giving the general public just enough that they return to their apathetic coma, but instead, they are doing everything to ensure something like a French Revolution (hopefully non-violent) that will leave them with nothing.

Secondly, your question about the Democrats having the balls to obstruct is absurd. Ever hear of the "Fab 14"?
