Washington (CNN)Americans will see a preview of what could be the general election matchup when the Democratic and Republican front-runners make pitches to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee audience later this month.
Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are now scheduled to address the conference hosted by AIPAC, the leading pro-Israel lobby in Washington, from March 20 to March 22, the organization said Friday. AIPAC did not specify the dates on which the candidates will speak.
Trump and Clinton have rarely spoken to the same audiences so far in the campaign. But each candidate has tried to position themselves as a pro-Israel voice in their respective parties.
Trump's address will be watched particularly closely. Rivals have started targeting him for comments he made about pledging to be "neutral" in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with Republicans saying that it suggests Trump is not sufficiently pro-Israel.

Petition urges Sanders to snub AIPAC, hotbed of Clintonism and neoconservatism
A petition has been started urging Bernie Sanders to reject the invitation from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC, to speak at the leading rightwing Israel lobby group in ten days. Max Blumenthal writes:
AIPAC has invited Bernie Sanders to participate in its 2016 Policy Conference in Washington DC. Voice your support for justice and equality in Israel-Palestine and urge Bernie to reject this invitation. As the main arm of the pro-Israel lobby in the United States, AIPAC has sworn to promote the racist, militaristic, and anti-democratic policies of the most right-wing government in Israels history. Its conference this year will feature Islamophobes, anti-immigrant activists, and religious extremists. With his promise to seek a level playing field on Israel-Palestine, Bernie does not belong on the same stage as these figures. Urge him to reject AIPACs invitation and support justice in the Holy Land.
This represents an effort to politicize Israel support inside the Democratic Party. The base cries out for such a discussion; but Bernie Sanders has not really picked up the ball.
Of course Hillary Clinton will be addressing the AIPAC policy conference, and her presence there alongside Benjamin Netanyahus demonstrates the intersectionality (we used to say overlap) of Clintonism and neoconservatism. Countless neocons will stud the office chairs at AIPAC, including Bill Kristol, who purged the Arabists from the Republican Party; Dan Senor, an adviser to Marco Rubio; and Bret Stephens, the Wall Street Journals flash columnist.

(33,284 posts)Not going to cut it with AIPAC. Nothing less than total obeisance is acceptable. At least Cruz and Rubio made a nice start with their groveling last night.
Sanders will be well-advised to stay the fuck away.

(39,215 posts)Rs in Congress Bernie stayed away. I don't think he has anything to gain by going now. AIPAC is a rw organization and not all Jews agree with them. And I doubt that they are going to vote for Bernie anyhow.
Stay away and win the Jews who care about Israel but do not like the rw politicians there.
Now not being Jewish - I can't say that I know anything about this for certain.

(62,325 posts)AIPAC isn't fond of Bernie. Thankfully. That would give me pause so glad to see Hillary and Trump together again. It's interesting the connections between Hillary and Trump. He donated ten times to her campaigns. They go to each other's family weddings, their kids are best friends.
Probably why the political theater pretending they don't like each other looks as phony as it is.

(3,864 posts)to see if bernie goes.
If he doesn't go he will alienate right-wing zionists for whom US policy exists to prop up Natenyahu.
and they have long memories, money and power.
remember cynthia McKinney. when she spoke against aipac, they easily organized and defeated her in the primary.
If he does go, he may alienate some of his supporters, but since progressive people who are into electoral politics, have nowhere to go but bernie (except greens) my analysis is that from the standpoint of being the standard bearer - which is the only criteria any politician has - he has less to lose by attending.
we shall see....

(1,192 posts)Frankly, I'd be disappointed if he does.
Pandering doesn't suit him. Any type of lobbying industry I wish he'd stay away, and especially the AIPAC because he's promised to play an even-handed role when it comes to Israel-Palestine issue. Michigan Muslims voted for him big time, and they're not gonna be happy to see him siding with Israeli lobby.

(31,972 posts)The Michigan electorate was full of surprises on Tuesday. The biggest was Sen. Bernie Sanders' upset win over Hillary Clinton, but there were also some interesting results from the city of Dearborn, the "Arab capital of North America," with about 41 percent of the city claiming Arab ancestry. Dearborn houses the Arab American National Museum and several large mosques unlike the Chaldean Christian Arab community in nearby Sterling Heights, "the Dearborn community is overwhelmingly Muslim," says Michigan Radio. And Dearborn Republicans voted for Donald Trump, the candidate pledging to close U.S. borders to Muslims, 39 percent to 30 percent for nearest competitor John Kasich.

(1,192 posts)Michigan Muslims aren't all democrats. Republicans among them voted for Trump, I see. Why do you bring up irrelevant data?
My point is, the democratic voters among Michigan Muslims went for Bernie over Hillary, partly because he's promised to play an even-handed role in Israel-Palestine issue and historically speaking, he's been less trigger-happy than Hillary when it comes to interventionist, regime-change wars in the MENA.

I don't see how bernie can be said to play an even-handed role when he has never - as far as I know - pls inform me if I am wrong - condemned Israel for the slaughter of 2100 Palestinian civilians. Nor has he condemned the infinite number of violations of international law by Israel, which has made Israel (justifiably) a pariah among civilized nations. Again, if I have missed his condemnations, pls link.

(6,891 posts)that has become so bizarre that candidates for the presidency of the United States strive to out do one another pledging fealty to a foreign power. Something is very wrong with that.

(6,171 posts)He's such a lunatic that he could say just about anything. Perhaps he'll explain his views on Muslims, or maybe he'll crack anti-Semitic jokes - either way, it will be interesting.
OTOH, I know already where HRC stands when it comes to AIPAC, Israel and Netanyahu, so her speech will be no surprise.
