Rubio Beats Kasich in DC Republican Convention

Source: Washington Post

Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida edged out Ohio Gov. John Kasich in Saturday’s Republican convention, where voters waited in line as long as three hours to cast ballots.

Many of them called it one of the most significant Republican primaries here in years.

Rubio got 10 of the 19 delegates, and Kasich got nine. The others on the ballot failed to meet the threshold for delegate allocation, said Patrick Mara, executive director of the D.C. Republican Party.

...

Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas trailed by substantial margins. Trump got 13.8 percent of the votes and Cruz 12.4 percent.

How the hell could the lines be 3 hours long? There are so few Republicans in DC, probably not more than 100 per precinct.

and only 15 machines.

That is all on them. DC repub leaders made that choice.

I will way this: Of the total registered voters in DC, 6.25% are registered Republicans. the registered voters who came to cast a vote, almost 75% voted for either Kasich or Rubio. Since the other candidates failed to reach a 15% threshold, they will not receive any delegates.

I am fine with that.

I must have missed the part where it said there was only 1 polling place. When I voted in DC in the 2004 Democratic primaries my precinct was a 5 minute walk away. I guess the city decided it's not worth having so many precincts for a Republican primary due to lack of demand.
