Trump Says He'll Skip Debate, Warns of Possible Convention Riots

Last edited Wed Mar 16, 2016, 10:53 AM - Edit history (2)

Source: Bloomberg

Fresh off three more primary victories, Donald Trump said Wednesday he’ll blow off the next Republican presidential debate and warned of “riots” if power-brokers deny him the nomination at the convention even if he's leading in the delegate count.

The billionaire New York developer, who held a narrow lead in Missouri and lost Ohio on Tuesday, is faced with the prospect of a floor fight at the party convention in July if he's leading in delegates but falls short of a majority, 1,237.

“I think we’ll win before getting to the convention, but I can tell you, if we didn’t and if we’re 20 votes short or if we’re 100 short and we’re at 1,100 and somebody else is at 500 or 400 cause we’re way ahead of everybody, I don’t think you can say that we don’t get it automatically,” Trump said on CNN on Wednesday. “I think you’d have riots.”

“I wouldn’t lead it, but I think bad things would happen,” Trump said, adding the outcome would “disenfranchise” his supporters.

Definitions of Terrorism in the U.S. Code

18 U.S.C. § 2331 defines "international terrorism" and "domestic terrorism" for purposes of Chapter 113B of the Code, entitled "Terrorism”:

"International terrorism" means activities with the following three characteristics:

Involve violent acts or acts dangerous to human life that violate federal or state law;
Appear to be intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and
Occur primarily outside the territorial jurisdiction of the U.S., or transcend national boundaries in terms of the means by which they are accomplished, the persons they appear intended to intimidate or coerce, or the locale in which their perpetrators operate or seek asylum.*

"Domestic terrorism" means activities with the following three characteristics:

Involve acts dangerous to human life that violate federal or state law;
Appear intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination. or kidnapping; and
Occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the U.S.

18 U.S.C. § 2332b defines the term "federal crime of terrorism" as an offense that:

Is calculated to influence or affect the conduct of government by intimidation or coercion, or to retaliate against government conduct; and
Is a violation of one of several listed statutes, including § 930(c) (relating to killing or attempted killing during an attack on a federal facility with a dangerous weapon); and § 1114 (relating to killing or attempted killing of officers and employees of the U.S.).

* FISA defines "international terrorism" in a nearly identical way, replacing "primarily" outside the U.S. with "totally" outside the U.S. 50 U.S.C. § 1801(c).

Is it going to be a fist fight on the convention floor, with Trump leading the way? No, that's right -- he has his mafia friends to do that for him.

The best case scenario is for him to be denied the nomination and then set off for a third party run. Oh please oh please oh please!

There would be riots if he's leading in the delegates and doesn't get the nomination. Many of his voters probably won't vote for the nominee.

The same is true for the Democrats if Bernie goes into the convention with the most pledged delegates but the nomination is handed to Hillary.

Kasich won’t debate Monday without Trump

The next GOP presidential debate could be a one-man show.

hio Gov. John Kasich’s spokesman says he won’t debate without Donald Trump onstage. Trump said earlier Wednesday he won’t be there.

John Weaver says, “we had hoped to contrast Gov. Kasich’s positive inclusive approach to problem solving with Trump’s campaign of division.”

Weaver adds: “If he changes his mind, we will be there.”

He would only do it once vs. either. I am a Bernie supporter, but I have respect for Hillary's debate skills. Both of our candidates would kill Trump in a debate. He has no real knowledge of the issues facing America. The Republican "debates" we're a perfect place to hide because they were all about Isis and outrageous, fact free statements. In a debate with Democrats his lack of knowledge would be readily apparent to everyone but his ignorant followers. He would not be allowed to skate by just saying outrageous things.

I am concerned that Hillary may not be able to defeat Trump in an election, but she would wipe the floor with him in the debates. Bernie would win the election and wipe the floor with Trump in the debates!

If he gets the most votes he deserves the nomnation. It's more a reflection of how evil republicans are themselves and the monster they created. He should be the nominee, the party should implode, he should lose either to Bernie or Hillary and that should be aided by normal repubs running a third party candidate. Also don't be surprised if a 4 th party candidate jumps in to take advantage of the split.

Mar 2016

His rhetoric, his violence, his appeal to the KKK, nazis, neo-nazis, fascists, militia groups, birthers... the list goes on and on. Folks, these riots he's talking about? They have been a long time in coming from the ranks of the hard right - and we should not underestimate the potential for violence, even extreme violence. What we have seen thus far is but a small indication of what someone like Trump can inspire his fanatical, vicious, malicious, ignorant and hateful followers to do. We've seen some nazi salutes, some confederate flag waving, despicable symbols and so on... but again, we have seen but a fraction of what I fear we will see going forward.

Check out your history books, or google the history of the brown shirt movement, the Hitler youth, Hitler himself. What we are seeing from Trump is indeed revolutionary, in it's ignorance and it's hate, in it's contempt for reason, for peace, for compassion. This man isn't simply a clown, not simply a crook, but rather, he is one of the most dangerous men on earth at this time. He's not joking or making idle threats when he speaks of riots.

I'm not saying this to scare people, I'm not saying this because I think he's going to win, I'm not saying this to pander to any particular group or person... I'm saying this, because it's the truth. History has this rather bizarre tendency to repeat itself when we do not learn from it. Trump and his movement are gleefully scapegoating Muslims and Latinos, African Americans - and many others. That is what they are doing now... under a Trump Presidency, I suspect he would far more likely to scapegoat still more.

This man and his movement can be and should be soundly defeated by both the left AND the right. Compassion, empathy, peace, love, enlightenment... these are powerful words, powerful concepts - and the path to victory and progress.

This guy isn't just some ignorant clown. He's more dangerous than the media is letting on, than most suspect. With eager supporters like David Duke and Ann Coulter, we should be very wary of this man and what he can do.

Not so very long ago, the world united to defeat the Nazi movement led by Hitler. My fear is that it may very well have to unite again to defeat the same kind of person here in the US. Should Trump emerge victorious in the general election.... we ain't seen nothing yet.

Don't underestimate his power and influence. Our message should be one of peace, of compassion, of mutual respect... but, should Trump choose to lead with violence, we must be prepared to defend ourselves and others. If you are out there working to campaign, to get out the vote, whether for Clinton or Sanders... USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM. Do not go out alone - and be very careful in your interactions with Trump supporters.

He will lose, either way, in the end, because such men as he and such people as his followers ALWAYS lose. The question is... how much damage will they do first?

and if so, what form will it take and how much rhetoric will he spew to insight his mouth breathing followers?
