Dems watching GOP squabbles
By Joe Holley and Peggy Fikac

Republican delegates to the state party convention in Fort Worth continued for a second day Friday to tussle among themselves over the direction of their party. Some booed the name of Mitt Romney, their presumptive presidential nominee, and a sizable number of convention-goers walked out on House Speaker Joe Straus.

The moves highlighted tension between traditional conservatives and tea party or movement conservatives, even as the GOP celebrated its Texas dominance, legislative accomplishments and unified front against President Obama.

Nearly 300 miles to the southeast, Democrats at the George R. Brown Convention Center spent Friday attending caucus gatherings and tending to party business, but many kept an ear half-cocked to what was happening in Cow Town. To those of a certain age, it brought back memories of their party struggles during the so-called McGovern era, when true believers worked to purge the party of its moderate elements.

"The problem for Republicans, the challenge for them is that they are losing control over their own folks," San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro said. "They have no control over their party right now. They have no control over their base."

1. Though the Democrat Party is not perfect

I will take it any day over repub or Libertian. Tea party can not win on their own nor can the libertines so they went for the party (repub) who really could not win either so now the radicals thinks the more radical the better and is ending up ruining many things. The repubs I grew up with was fiscal conservative and now this word is so abused and distorted fisical does not come close any more. Grover Norquist talked the sheepies into signing an oath we can not afford and none of them are smart enough to tell him to jump off. Thank goodness for Democrats, the last of sanity.

Believe it or not some really don't realize it's a right wing smear. I knew a Dem Cong. candidate (not the sharpest tool in the drawer but a true Dem for sure) who used the term. I corrected him and explained why it needs to always be Democratic and he was pretty horrified at his error. I don't think he's made that mistake since (and while that guy lost that particular race he did make it to the state House and is doing a good job representing his district as a Dem.

Just throwing that out there.

The GOP has been highjacked by extremists. Plastic Patriotism is a hot selling item these days and the ignorant masses are sponging it up like crazy.

11. In someway it would be good to follow the Pubs lead in party loyalty

and a good start would be in ridding the Democratic party of it members who do the bidding of the corporations, everyone knows who they are. Besides the Party did it before with the old Dixiecrats so it would not be unheard of.

The Democratic Party needs to make a choice, people or corporations, they cannot have both ways any more.

Pick a side Dems.

Me I pick the people first.
