More CEOs seek repeal of North Carolina law

Source: The Associated Press

RALEIGH, N.C.

More than 100 corporate executives added their names to a letter delivered to North Carolina's governor on Thursday calling for the repeal of the nation's first state law limiting bathroom options for transgender people.

The list now includes leaders of many sectors of the economy. Tourism is represented by Hilton, Marriott and Starwood hotels; AirBnB, Uber and Lyft; and American Airlines, which has a major hub in Charlotte, the state's largest city. Banking and finance executives include the leaders of Bank of America, Citibank, TD Bank, PayPal, and others; Restaurateurs and retailers include leaders of Starbucks, Barnes & Noble and Levi Strauss; and Technology leaders joined in force, including the leaders of IBM, Apple, Intel, Google, Facebook, Yahoo, eBay, Twitter, YouTube, and many others.

The new law "will make it far more challenging for businesses across the state to recruit and retain the nation's best and brightest workers and attract the most talented students from across the nation. It will also diminish the state's draw as a destination for tourism, new businesses, and economic activity," the letter said.

"They know this attack on lesbian, gay, bisexual and especially transgender North Carolinians isn't just morally wrong - it also puts their employees, customers and North Carolina's economy at risk," HRC President Chad Griffin said in a statement.

In addition, Chicago has now gotten in to the act. Rahm Emanuel wants to lure business away from NC. He took advantage of
Indiana passing a similar law last year.

CHICAGO

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says he will try to poach businesses and conventions from North Carolina because of a law eliminating anti-discrimination protections for lesbians, gays and bisexuals.

Emanuel also says he will he ban the use of city funds for nonessential travel to the state.

Emanuel pointed to his ability to lure a Whole Foods warehouse and 200 jobs from Indiana to Chicago because of that state's passage of a bill that raised concerns about discrimination against gays and lesbians. The mayor also threw in a $7.4 million subsidy.

Emanuel said he has asked his staff to draw up a list of North Carolina companies they think "we can talk into considering a move to Chicago."

Boy, McCrory just keeps digging himself in deeper. FUBAR. Just plain FUBAR, thanks to Republicans.

Damn, if we don't get rid of McCrory in November--and many of his merry band of bigots in the Legislature--it will not bode well for this country.

Mar 2016

If he and the majority of the legislature in this state aren't thrown out come November 7th, I will be putting my house on the market and moving, don't care if I take a loss...which I most likely will. Will not live in a place that openly and flagrantly discriminates against anyone.

VOTE ROY COOPER for Governor!!!!

5. The problem with that is where do you go?

We moved to Chapel Hill in 2000. It was great and I LOVED Chapel Hill--even through the Bush years--until the
Republicans took over in 2012. They have proceeded to destroy what was once, arguably, the most progressive
state in the South.

We moved here from Nebraska. When we moved to Nebraska in 1994, there were two Democratic Senators and
a Democratic Governor. We all know how that changed in a short 6 years.

I wouldn't even think about going back to California--where I lived from 1965-88. I couldn't handle the rain/cloudy
weather in the Pacific Northwest.

I don't want to live where there are cold/snowy winters. Forget Florida. I couldn't get my husband
to move to Kauai--which is where I'd go if it was just me.

So, where will you go?
