In a surprising breach of normal etiquette, President Obama's Rose Garden remarks on Friday were interrupted by heckling from reporter Neil Munro from the website Daily Caller.

Obama, announcing a change of policy that would allow the children of illegal immigrants to avoid deportation if they meet certain criteria, was interrupted mid-speech by Munro.

"Why’d you favor foreigners over Americans?” Munro shouted.

“Excuse me, sir, but it’s not time for questions," Obama responded.

“Are you going to take questions?” Munro asked.

“Not while I’m speaking.” Obama said.

While it's not unusual for Obama to be interrupted by occasional hecklers at big public events, the fact that a reporter brought Obama's speech to complete halt startled members of the White House press corp.

'Journalist' interrupts President Obama as he was delivering a statement in Rose Garden.

The President was visibly angry and sternly asked the man to let him finish. After the President was done he briefly addressed him and was met with what seemed to be argument. The President left the area right afterwards.

Reporters are following the man with a 'temporary press ID' as he is leaving.

I acknowledge the obvious racist intent behind the behavior of some, but I think the GOP and rightwing talking heads/hacks would be showing this level of disrespect to any Democrat President regardless of race. They do not believe that Democrats represent a valid political or social point of view. Since President Obama has frequently said that he wants to be a "Centrist" and has admired one or more Republican Presidents (and Reagan in particular), he could say that now admires Nixon's efforts to sic the IRS on some of his enemies and is going to ask the IRS to audit this guy.

If you are concerned about color, Obama could mention that Nixon was a white guy.

Or he could say that he has finally decided to prosecute some war criminals. No skin color would come into the decision. He could say that we have prosecuted war criminals in the past.

Skin color should not be used as an excuse. Can you imagine LBJ saying, or anyone saying on his behalf, that he could not do anything to put fear in his enemies and cause them to decline to demonstrate disrespect to him in his presence, that LBJ was from Texas (or any other excuse)?
