(CNN) -- Travis Baumgartner, the man accused of killing three people during a robbery attempt at a Canadian university, was arrested Saturday by U.S. border officials in Washington, police said.
He was caught while attempting to cross into the United States at the Lynden, Washington, U.S.-Canada border, south of Abbotsford, British Columbia.
"We're grateful to the border officials at Lynden, Washington, for their excellent work in arresting a man we believe was armed and extremely dangerous," Bob Hassel, superintendent of the Edmonton Police criminal investigations division, said in a statement.
Baumgartner will be brought back to Edmonton, the statement read.

(41,959 posts)Probably thought to avoid the big one in Blaine. I'm always amazed at how an entire border can be maintained. Seems impossible.

(27,247 posts)so it's a mystery why he went way over to Abbortsford, BC, when there are any number of lightly-traveled crossings on the US-Alberta border, or even in eastern BC. For that matter, why was he even trying to get into the US?

(8,646 posts)And he was in the same truck. No passport. Yeah, um, dude, you're not getting across like that.
Glad they caught him - they were warning rural residents around where I live (near Edmonton) to keep an eye out in case he tried to get on their property and hide out. Not a real comfortable feeling. I'll sleep better tonight.
So sad for the families. Unbelievably tragic.

(254 posts)It's heartbreaking to see the damage this piece of shit has wrought. The pictures of the deceased men with their children is bad enough, but to see photos of a bride, beautiful in her gown just 3 months into her marriage...I have no way to explain this.
Thank you to the excellent staff at this boarder crossing. You have aided the families in their grieving process.
