Rep. Alan Grayson weds girlfriend running for his House seat

Source: Fresno Bee

One contender to replace Rep. Alan Grayson in the U.S. House got a boost from the incumbent over the holiday weekend: by becoming his new wife.

The representative wed girlfriend Dena Minning Sunday night in Melbourne Beach, according to a statement from his office.

“Rep. Alan Grayson and his wife Dr. Dena Grayson had a small, private wedding ceremony Sunday evening, with friends and family in attendance to celebrate their union, in the Florida beach town where Dena grew up,” spokeswoman Brook Hines said, according to the Miami Herald.

The new Dr. Grayson changed her names on Facebook and Twitter, and updated her campaign banners to reflect the name change, according to the Orlando Political Observer.

Because she is running for Grayson's seat.

Because this explains Grayson's hideous behavior towards the mother of his five children (he and Dina were an item even way back then).

Because she now can appear as GRAYSON on the ballot where she hopes many people won't notice that it's not Alan, but Dina running.

Because Alan Grayson promised his endorsement to one of his staffers who wanted to run for the seat he was vacating, and then reneged when his girlfriend-now-wife decided she wanted it.

You don't know it was not a spontaneous decision. Fiance is a form of status that's announced in advance. Girlfriend is a common word for an unformalized but de facto status that corresponds to boyfriend. Should she be called his girlfriend, rather than he her boyfriend? Maybe! But for now he's by far the better known person.

In the past two years she was listed as a federal lobbyist with her company to represent Biocryst Pharmaceuticals, which advertises the drug Rapivab as a “first-and-only one-dose intravenous treatment for influenza.”

She is EVERYTHING that is wrong with Congress--obscenely wealthy, looking to get richer, marrying that hedge fund owner in ethics hot water with the House, who dumped his first wife and carried on this woman for several years while so doing...

And everyone here is oohing and aaahing because he (not her--no one knows her from a hole in the wall) says a few stupid fist-pounding phrases (Fight the power! You deserve a fair shake!) while doing absolutely NOTHING to actually help people.

Ugh. People like this will be the death of the Democratic franchise. And the band played on...."Goodguy team?" Give me a break.

I hope she loses the primary. ANYONE would be better than a lobbyist in a catbird seat.

Minning worked as biotechnology consultant at MEDACorp from 2002-2003.[18] From 2003 to 2008, Minning served as an Associate Director of Licensing and Director of Medical Sciences at Amgen, where she developed new treatments for grave diseases, such as asthma, anemia, hyperlipidemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, heart failure, and pain. While at Amgen, Minning was selected as a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute in 2006.[19] Minning then served as Vice President of Translational Sciences at 3-V Biosciences from 2008 to 2010,[18] where she oversaw the development of broad-spectrum antiviral drugs. Minning served as the Vice President of Translational Sciences for AlloCure from 2011 to 2014, where she led research activities for a mesenchymal stem cell therapy for acute kidney injury. In 2010, Minning founded MedExpert Consulting,[18] a biotechnology consulting company, where she helped research and develop a broad-spectrum antiviral drug active against Ebola, Yellow Fever and other deadly viral diseases.

changing Minning to Grayson.

I mean, come on--you cannot be that gullible. She's on her honeymoon and she has time to edit her frigging page? Not too calculating at all. I hope the voters are not that stupid.

This doesn't sound like an altruist to me--read the actual WORDS in this article--she's not doing this to be "nice," she is doing it--like that sleazy former SECDEF Rumsfeld did w/anthrax--to make a KILLING off of the US government--the translation of the first paragraph, simply, is "She knows how to raise money to make drugs to sell drugs to make money"--that's how she USED to market herself, before she got politically ambitious and tried to remake herself as Florence Nightingale:

In addition to her medical degree and Ph.D, Minning is the founder and president of MedExpert Consulting, a firm that, according to her LinkedIn page, “leverages Dr. Minning’s unique combination of executive leadership, successful fundraising, and drug development expertise, along with experience in business development and market research and forecasting to maximize the potential of drug candidates and position companies for future strategic opportunities.”
Minning in 2013 and 2014 was also a registered federal lobbyist for MedExpert on behalf of a company called “BioCryst Pharmaceuticals” and sought “funding for development of medical countermeasures directed against bioterrorism agents that pose a significant threat to public health and national security,” according to her lobbyist disclosures. Minning’s LinkedIN page says she also “played a central role in successfully procuring a $25+ million contract from the US Government, awarded to one of her clients for the development of a broad-spectrum antiviral drug.”

Make shit that we don't really need, then lobby/soften up Congress to buy it (we'll make it in YOUR district!) and laugh all the way to the bank. Please. That shit will rot in store rooms for a decade or more, and then be thrown out, and she will be paid again to make more.

Alan Grayson screwed over a long-term member of his OWN staff, who expected his endorsement when that staffer ran for his seat--boy, did she learn how easily it was to be brutally BLINDSIDED by this guy, when she had to be told by frigging POLITICO that her OWN boss was backing his (at the time, low key) gal pal--bet it gave her enormous sympathy for the Ex!

Grayson’s statement bashing insiders for trying to “choose our party nominee” has a measure of irony in light of Minning’s interest in running for the seat. Minning’s potential candidacy could cause a rift in Grayson’s own office because his district director and longtime campaign adviser, Susannah Randolph, is considering a bid for the congressional seat if he vacates it.
“I wouldn’t say I’m interested. Yeah, I’d consider it for sure. But that’s only if Alan runs for Senate, and I’m not sure if that’s going to happen or not,” she said. “It all depends on what Alan does, and there’s no set course.”
When asked about the reports of Minning’s interest in the seat, Randolph said she was surprised. “I’m speechless,” Randolph said.

she used to cut quite the wide swathe on the donor circuit, playing the "Pay to Play" game.

She's got pictures of herself doing the "dinner party smile" with most of the politicians on our team on the Hill--she'll have her "I Love Me" wall all ready to hang if she makes it past the primary and general.

As a former lobbyist, she has absolutely NOTHING in common with her constituency. She will use her seat to help herself, not them.

And it's OK if he marries a frigging former LOBBYIST who was all about selling her "intravenous influenza cure" and wanted to make sure the path was smoothed in that regard.

hell, living large in DC, she was raising those kids in "the worst house in the best neighborhood." It had septic issues, mold issues, and needed a lot of TLC, and for several years, he refused to make arrangements to repair things like cracked windows and broken pipes, and he wouldn't give her enough cash to fix the problems herself. He cut her off without a dime in order to try to force her to bow down to him, and she had to get an EBT card and put her kids on the free school lunch program. All the while, he's at those fancy fundraisers, drinking champagne and munching on high end hors d'ouvres. with his new Main Squeeze.

He has utterly no shame, no couth and no class. If life were fair, his new bride would fail in her lobbyist's greed to grab a little corner of Congress, and he'd be sent packing, too. They're both disgraces.

He's a TALKER. And not even a good one. He doesn't unify people towards lofty goals, he denigrates and is crude--he demonizes and plays the Us Against Them game.

He can speechify, he can use vulgar language to get attention, he can dress absurdly, like a clown, so people will look at him, but that's no substitute for substantive lawmaking--not legislation that is already included in other bills (he introduces stand-alone bills that don't get considered, then takes credit when the OTHER bill that already included "his" idea passes-smoke and mirrors).

He calls people names, he waves his arms, he gets all dramatic, and he used to force his staffers to come on here and beg for money--this is one of the wealthiest men in Congress, begging for money.

When he wrote that fake "Daddy needs money" fundraising letter, ostensibly from his kid, that was enough to make anyone vomit. Hell, mommy needed money--she was making do on an EBT card with free school lunches for the kids because Daddy wasn't paying his support!

They tolerate a lot of individuality and quirkiness in the House. In the cooling saucer of the Senate, there are a hundred guys all of whom look in the mirror and see a future president. They expect a small measure of decorum. I'm with Harry Reid as regards this guy, who said, straight out to him "I want you to LOSE." We don't need an ethics-challenged Senator in a chamber we can flip.
