What in the world has this got to do anything with "multiculturalism"? It's just culture. Barking up the wrong tree here.

It is difficult for us to understand because our culture is what has been called a Guilt Society. It is possible to redeem oneself through apology, appropriate behavior, penance (e.g. prison term). One person's crime doesn't necessarily affect the entire family/town/region.

However, in a shame or honor society like Pakistan, the consequences for a breach of behavioral norm extend to entire clans and can result in generations of violence and discord. Think Hatfields and McCoys with Kalashnikovs, IEDs and gasoline. The mother's not participating in this would have been another breach and she, herself, would have been hunted down and killed by family members (not trying to excuse, trying to explain). The honor killing is required to preserve the status quo and is generally approved of by the community. This entire society will have to change to stop this horrifying behavior.

appears to be extremely easy for people in our society to inject judgment and blame .
And doubly difficult not to be aghast while still accepting a different reality.

I'm not a parent but isn't it somewhat innate for a parent to PROTECT their child? And over fucking honor? This is sickening.

And women.
The more isolated, rural and religious/tribal the village, the harder such horrible beliefs hold on.

When a girl is born, there is no celebration..there are condolences and resentments.

god, how sad.

Apparently, centuries old beliefs hold on in urban areas too. Misogyny is a global disease. Rural, urban, wealthy, poor...
