Islamic State stones woman to death

Source: Times of India

MOSUL: Militants from the Islamic State group stoned a woman to death for alleged adultery in the northern city of Iraq, aided by onlookers, local news site Aranews reported on Friday.

"Hundreds of people gathered in front of the Zahraa mosque in Mosul to witness the execution of the woman," media activist Abdullah al-Malla was quoted as telling Aranews.

The IS militants forced several civilians to take part in the stoning, Aranews cited an eyewitness as saying.

"They called on people to take part in the execution, saying we're in the holy month of Ramadan and we should show commitment to Allah's Sharia and that the woman deserved death for committing adultery," a witness said.

5. and the children

My gawd, growing up in such a violent society. Where their mothers and sisters are in constant fear. And watching other women and even girls, being slaughtered in the most vile ways. And also men and boys. A whole generation growing up with this as the norm. It will have two effects. On the average young person it will leave them traumatized. On the small percent of those with psychotic tendencies, it will shape their thinking throughout their lives, creating a whole new generation of ultraviolent thugs.

2. It never ends

There is one of these stories seemingly every single fucking day. Women quite simply don't have lives there. They're slaves.

6. Saudi Arabia same thing - one is our friend and one our enemy

Really no need to highlight an ISIS execution when SA does the same thing - both follow sharia law. ISIS may be harsher, but it looks like there's little disagreement on the punishment front...

Saudi Arabia: beheadings reach highest level in two decades
Number of people executed for non-lethal offences and drug-related crimes is on the rise in the kingdom, which follows Sharia law

Saudi Arabia carried out at least 157 executions in 2015, with beheadings reaching their highest level in the kingdom in two decades, according to several advocacy groups that monitor the death penalty worldwide. Coinciding with the rise in executions is the number of people executed for non-lethal offences that judges have discretion to rule on, particularly for drug-related crimes.
...

While some crimes, such as premeditated murder, carry fixed punishments under Saudi Arabia’s interpretation of the Islamic law, or Shariah, drug-related offences are considered “ta’zir”, meaning neither the crime nor the punishment is defined in Islam. Discretionary judgments for “ta’zir” crimes have led to arbitrary rulings with contentious outcomes.

In a lengthy report issued in August, Amnesty International noted the case of Lafi al-Shammari, a Saudi national with no previous criminal record who was executed in mid-2015 for drug trafficking. The person arrested with him and charged with the same offences received a 10-year prison sentence, despite having prior arrests related to drug trafficking.

7. The obvious reason they don't execute the men ...

... is, again, obviously, there are no actual "men" around ...

11. I pity the women in these countries. No freedom, no autonomy and

no say even in their own lives. If men decide that they want to kill them, they have no recourse. They are completely at the mercy of the mob. What a sick, sick culture.

15. It's the little differences that make life interesting.

I for one cannot wait to see how this minor cultural difference enriches our society.

16. The sad thing is that there are some on this board

that have said pretty much the same thing, without the sarcasm. I'm sure we all know who I'm talking about.
