Police: Man assaults, bites woman in road rage incident

Updated 11:18 am, Friday, June 10, 2016

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Police have arrested a man who they say bit a woman's finger during a road rage incident in Arlington.

Local media outlets report 36-year-old Markeater Holyroyd was driving in South Arlington on Wednesday with her son when 55-year-old Timothy Dubois shouted at her. He then allegedly threw something at her car, but the woman kept driving.

When she stopped, Arlington County police say Dubois came up to the driver's side of her car and assaulted her. Holyroyd opened the door and Dubois bit her finger.

. . .

Police arrested Dubois at his home on charges of malicious wounding, assault and battery and driving under the influence.

+1 for TM. Arlington's ok, but very staid compared to Nola or Key West, understatement. appalachiablue Jun 2016 #12

the DC metro area is completely insane with everyone highly strung out and honking and cutting each other off. The traffic is disgusting.

Since 2010, road rage fatalities have increased 30%, resulting in 1,739 deaths from 2010-2014. Officials say that does not appear to be the case in Nevada.
...

Many blame aggressive driving for those types of incidents. "I don't appreciate aggressive hand gestures or tailgating too close, or following," Rachel Leighton, Sparks resident said.

The Department of Motor Vehicles says aggressive drivers routinely tailgate, honk their horns, flash their headlights, change lanes quickly and often, gesture to other drivers, and talk on their cell phones.

...

On the flip side, instigators are also blamed for many road rage incidents. They are the ones who drive under the speed limit, skip turn signals, slow down too early for exits, accelerate unevenly, and hog lanes.

That last line is victim blaming. The instigator is the criminal, the who brings violence to the situation. You can call the police, drive on, whatever, but you have no right to stop and confront someone.

The person they confront, however, has the right to protect themselves.

Hope he didn't have anything transmittable that will hurt or kill her.

"Going below the speed limit" is one thing.

Pulling in front of somebody to go slower than they are is another.

Where I live, everyone seems to be in such a hurry, tailgating all the time, zooming back and forth, all to just all meet up again at the next stop light, it's crazy. I must admit I used to drive like that too, but that was back when I was like 19.

Peace

Markeater Holyroyd and Timothy Dubois? Sounds like a Tennessee Williams play. Arlington must be an interesting place...
