Pittsburgh Penguins beat Sharks to win Stanley Cup

Source: San Jose Mercury News

SAN JOSE -- The Sharks remarkable season, and their historic playoff run, has come to an end.

The Sharks, who played from behind for almost the entire length of the series, couldn't erase a final one-goal deficit as the Pittsburgh Penguins captured their fourth-ever Stanley Cup with a 3-1 win in Game 6 of the final at SAP Center.

Logan Couture scored the only goal for the Sharks and Martin Jones made 24 saves in their final performances of the season.

Brian Dumoulin and Kris Letang scored the first two goals for the Penguins, who won the Cup for the first time since 2009. Patric Hornqvist scored into an empty net with 1:02 left in the third period to seal the victory.

New coach made all the difference.

Hated to see the classless fans booing loudly as the cup was awarded. No respect for the sport.

2. To be fair, my town of Pittsburgh didn't represent itself well after losing the previous game

Watched the game, didn't see anything wrong.

I do think it's very stupid to plan public celebrations like they did before Game 5. All it does is give motivation to the other team to ruin the party.

I saw a bunch of pictures on Facebook, but now that I think of it, I wonder if people were "repurposing" pics from previous events.

Doh! Curse me for not checking sources!

13. Yeah, when I think of "trashing a neighborhood" like we've seen with a lot of sporting events,

I think over-turned police cars on fire and stuff like that. It seems like the Burgh was pretty well behaved after the final two games, but it always pisses me off that people just throw so much garbage on the street during celebrations.

Happens everywhere he goes. I'm sure he gets booed by his family at thanksgiving dinner.

I think the Pens found an uncommon leader when they got Sullivan.

Their team speed just overwhelmed opponents more than anything.

Congrats all around to a great team effort

Oh, and Thank You Toronto!

Of the cup being hoisted from our seats last night but this site and facebook seem fundamentally incompatible when it comes to linking pictures...
