I'm about 25 miles south of this fire but can see the billowing smoke from my deck - air quality is horrible.

Cibola NF & National Grasslands’ – The North Fire Grows to 26,871 Acres

June 16, 2016
Magdalena, NM; June 16, 2016 – The North fire on the Magdalena Ranger District grew in size yesterday and is now 26,871 acres; at 30% containment. The lightning-caused fire started on May 21st and is located in the San Mateo Mountains, 25 miles southwest of Magdalena, NM. It continues to be actively managed for multiple resource benefits.

Two of my good friends are fire lookouts. My best friend is the one who turned in the Dog Head Fire - her lookout is up at Capilla Peak in the Monsanos. i'm down here outside of Mountainair and some people on my Facebook page are in the path of the fire.

This is way scary, with such low humidity and wind - and no weather relief in sight.

Fewer fires to date than average but about 200,000 more acres than average (that 400,000+ acre fire in Oklahoma/Kansas a couple of months ago didn't help the numbers). The heat that's forecast to move across the south and west this week isn't going to help the situation.
