BERNIE SANDERS: Almost 7,000 of my supporters just signed up to run for office

Source: Business Insider

After the Vermont senator made an impassioned plea to his supporters during a Thursday-night webcast to carry the "political revolution" forward, his campaign released a statement claiming that nearly 6,700 of his people said that they'd be interested in seeking elected office.

The supporters went to a portal on Sanders' campaign website, BernieSanders.com/win, and signed up to receive more information about running at the local or state level.

The campaign said that roughly 11,000 expressed interest in either running or volunteering to help other Sanders supporters run.

The Democratic presidential hopeful, who has yet to suspend his campaign - although the primary season has ended and he's won fewer pledged delegates than presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton - called the response "extraordinary."

"I have no doubt that with the energy and enthusiasm our campaign has shown that we can win significant numbers of local and state elections if people are prepared to become involved," Sanders said in the release. "This will be part of transforming our country from the bottom on up."

The Republicans did this from the bottom up.Local elections count. I hope they feel the same after the killer weed wears off.

They're only a minority here. Not in general. And, despite the impression that a few people around here give...they are not a 'hated' minority. Not at all!

Do you believe in god and do you think it's important to the people of the United States?

“I am who I am, and what I believe in and what my spirituality is about, is that we’re all in this together. That I think it is not a good thing to believe that as human beings we can turn our backs on the suffering of other people.”

I'm not eligible...too old and too crippled, but my next door neighbor is running for state district rep and he's a dem running against the republican incumbant, who's been in office way too long. He won his primary. We are a blue district. He says it's looking good.

I'm so excited...I donated to his campaign. He's a really sweet and smart young guy (well, young compared to me).

So even if you can't sign up to run, try to help someone local who is a Bernie supporter...or at least a dem who can challenge any incumbent republicans.

runs for President. (How far did Pat Robertson, Pat Buchannan, or Jack Kemph get in the Presidential nominee primaries?) It happens when the people at the bottom elect LOCAL representatives. LOTS of them. That's how the crackpot far-right movement managed to push the Overton Window so far to the right without anybody noticing. And how they got SO MUCH legislation passed in their favor. All of this going on while the candidates at the top of the ticket remained reasonably 'moderate' in appearance.

seen sporting events where exciting and important things happened after one team was clearly going to lose that particular game. A great player delighted many of his fans by hitting a home run or scoring a touchdown, even if it didn't win the game. They never quit!

And that's not what happened. Those people did not sign up to "run for office". They signed up to get more information about running for office. How many actually end up on the ballot is another matter.
