House Democrats cheer Clinton in first Capitol Hill meeting

Source: Seattle Times/AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Clinton received a rousing reception from House Democrats on Wednesday, making her first stop on Capitol Hill since clinching the Democratic nomination.

Greeted by chants of “Hillary, Hillary,” the presumptive Democratic nominee promised to use her massive campaign infrastructure to help Democrats win congressional races as part of what she called a “50 state strategy.”

“She said: ‘I know the difference between having the House and not having the House, and I want the House,” recalled Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash.

<...>

Democrats stressed the unity within their party, drawing a contrast with Republicans, some of whom have offered only lukewarm support for Trump.

“I love my candidate for president,” said Rep. Joe Crowley, D-N.Y. “I’d love to be a fly on the wall on July 7th and see what affection they have for their candidate.” House Republicans meet with Trump that day.

We may not turn a red state blue in November, but we may chisel away some House seats and win local elections.

She even sounds more like Bernie in recognizing income inequality and Wall street corruption. This is the Clinton I want to see...one which pays more attention to what she will do and what needs to be done more so than exposing this republican buffoon. Trump is actually running to the left of Hillary on trade policies and bringing jobs back home. I hope Hillary continues to pay attention to the populist movement and learned from Bernie Sanders on what the people claim they want.

You seem to forget that millions more preferred her message over Sanders message. Sanders message just wasn't as appealing as Hillary's. No, there won't be free college tuition for everyone. Free healthcare for all comes at a high cost to even the poorest - everybody will have to pay more in taxes, even those least able to pay more. Hillary tried to get universal healthcare done in the 90's and you see what that got her. She is paying equal attention to everybody - the way a good candidate should.

She is not taking 'bernie's' ideas. she won a primary based on her own ideas. she needs to be given credit for that.

because Trump has made "promises" that he will bring jobs back and blah, blah, blah.... It's all a part of his "Make American Great Again" schtick. He can say anything he wants, and pretty much does. Believing him takes some serious denial IMNSHO.

This is what she has been saying since the beginning of her campaign

Manufacturing
Manufacturing is coming back … My job as your president will be to do everything I can to create more good-paying jobs, to get wages rising again for American workers and families.”
HILLARY CLINTON, NOVEMBER 29, 2015

Hillary believes that creating good-paying jobs is the defining economic challenge of our time, and she has a plan to make America the first choice for manufacturing production worldwide.

-Strengthen investment in American manufacturing—so we make it in America. Hillary’s plan will build and expand upon President Obama’s support for a National Network for Manufacturing Innovation—to leverage the potential of regional hubs that bring together workers, business, universities, and community colleges to develop world-leading technologies and production that anchors good-paying jobs. And she will insist on ensuring union collective bargaining rights and labor protections, as well as high standards for domestic sourcing and “buy American” laws.

-Revitalize the hardest-hit manufacturing communities by creating tax incentives to encourage investment in communities that have faced or are about to face significant manufacturing job losses.

-Create incentives for companies to bring back jobs to the U.S. by making America the most attractive location for investment—and crack down on shifting earnings overseas.

Labor and workers' rights
When unions are strong, America is strong.

-Strengthen unions and protect worker bargaining power.

-Raise the minimum wage and strengthen overtime rules.

-Support working families through equal pay, paid family leave, earned sick days, fair schedules, and quality affordable child
care.

“If we want to get serious about raising incomes, we have to get serious about supporting union workers.”
HILLARY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2015

Raising incomes and fighting inequality
A plan to raise American incomes

-Give working families a raise, and tax relief that helps them manage rising costs.

-Create good-paying jobs and get pay rising by investing in infrastructure, clean energy, and scientific and medical research to strengthen our economy and growth.

-Close corporate tax loopholes and make the most fortunate pay their fair share.
Hillary believes the defining economic challenge of our time is raising incomes for hardworking Americans.

it's pointless now. However, the Clintons in general have been more centrist over the years than really liberal, and I strongly believe that Bernie 'helped' her shift a bit farther left than she was when she started.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it......on my way to the polls to vote for Hillary, and for all of the most progressive Dems I can find on my ballot.

She has to capture more than twice as many MORE votes than were cast in the primary to win the presidency. As much as we want to be, we just aren't all that on the DU. We can't freak out.

We can leverage the GOP epic failure of Trump to pick up lots of seats in both houses of Congress. Many Republicans might be discouraged and just won't be motivated to vote this year. Having strong majorities in Congress can help pass so many important laws the GOP have been blocking. Good liberal common sense stuff that has been a long time coming.
