First Read: Trump Takes a Surreal Victory Lap in Scotland

Source: NBC News

In what has to be one of the more surreal press conferences in U.S. presidential-campaign history, Donald Trump praised the British vote to leave the European Union in a place -- Scotland -- that overwhelming voted to remain; he said the falling British pound would be good for business; and he touted the opening of his new golf course in Scotland. "I love to see people to take their country back," he said. Referring to Brexit backers' opposition to immigration, Trump added that "people who you don't want … you are not going to have take." He said that Britain's declining currency was good for business, including at his new golf course. "If the pound goes down, they're going to do more business." But before he answered reporters' questions, Trump trumpeted the opening of his new golf course in Turnberry, Scotland. As the BBC's Katty Kay remarked on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," it was stunning Trump would make a pitch for Trump industries on a day like today, when global markets are reeling and much of Britain (and Europe) is in shock. One of Hillary Clinton's greatest weaknesses is the perception that she has used her political standing to make money. But Trump overshadows that when he takes his presidential campaign to Scotland -- the day after the Brexit vote -- to christen a new resort/golf course and talk about how a falling currency is good for business.

to visit the US or other places instead of jolly old England.
The UK just voted against "Foreigners" so many of them will avoid the country.

I'm surprised how little foreign tourism contributes to the British economy.

Thanks for the clarification, NoMoreRepugs. Here's a link to an analysis that has slightly different numbers than what you quoted but still within the same general range:

People who purchase things from England (as an example, I buy some nerdy game items from small English manufacturers regularly) are likely to buy now rather than later because our dollar buys more. Your dollar as a visitor to England would stretch further as well.

That said, there are devastating follow-on effects from a declining currency that would more than wipe that gain out, so yeah -- moron about covers it.

I went to Canada in the 90s and everyone told me to buy things there as US$ went further. In 2000s I went to UK and France and it was the opposite. Maybe now is the time to go over there as a tourist again as for once our money might be the stronger.

Things imported cost more
Things you buy when you travel cost more
Congratulations you just voted for a pay cut
and Trump can buy things from England cheaper.

....and sell them in a year or so at a huge profit, just like he did in the 1980s when the market crashed.

He was actually bragging to the press back then how much he made off the backs of the little people who lost huge amounts of their life savings and retirements.

And this is a guy who could possibly be elected President?

It is down 2.5%. A minor hiccup. Brexit will have no long term affect on the U.S. economy and it will be either a minor positive or minor negative on the UK economy. The gloom and doom crowd will be disappointed as they always are.
