Philippines President Calls On Civilians To Kill Drug Addicts

Source: Huffington Post

The Philippines’ president is asking civilians to murder drug addicts in the island nation — adding to a growing list of outrageous actions from the newly elected official.

President Rodrigo Duterte was sworn into office on Thursday after running a campaign that focused on violently cracking down on crime.

He’s pledged to bring back the death penalty and kill 100,000 criminals. Now, he’s asking his fellow Filipinos to kill alleged criminals themselves.

“These sons of whores are destroying our children,” Duterte said Thursday night to a crowd of 500 in a Manila slum. “I warn you, don’t go into [drug trafficking], even if you’re a policeman, because I will really kill you,” he said.

Duterte is very left-wing compared to the opposition paid for by the conservative oligarchs(who'll be the ones organizing a coup if it happens). He's already gotten further ahead in ending the communist insurgency than any other previous president did.

On one hand he's fucking nuts but on the other hand I don't know what else can be done with the Philippines. Meth abuse is horribly rampant in the Philippines, even young kids and old grandmas are addicted to it. Poverty is so terrible in the Philippines and the income inequality makes the US's looks like nothing. The country has 10 billionaires and many other rich upper class families with roots stretching back from the Spanish colonial era yet many people have to survive on less than $1 a day.

This is why Duterte won and has such powerful popular support, he was the only candidate willing to take on the oligarchs and the corrupt Catholic Church which has enormous levels of power and wealth like how the Vatican did during the medieval ages. What are filipinos supposed to do when the standard of living remains as poor as ever and society is getting more desperate with all the other politicians completely corrupted by greed?

Either way, things are getting really really bad with or without Duterte. I'm just glad I was able to get out and live in the US now, but I still have lots of family there and fear for them.
