Seminary Student Sentenced in San Diego for Seeking Sex With Babies in Tijuana
Joel Alexander Wright, 23, admitted he planned to travel to Mexico via San Diego to seek sex with babies in Tijuana
By Monica Garske and Samantha Tatro
A former Ohio seminary student who pleaded guilty to trying to adopt and buy baby girls in Mexico so he could sexually molest them will be sentenced in San Diego Friday.
In April, Joel Alexander Wright, 23, admitted to seeking sex with infants he wanted to adopt from Tijuana. In his plea agreement, Wright admitted he had written numerous explicit emails where he described, in graphic detail, how his desires to sexually assault baby girls under the age of four in Mexico.
There are no words to describe the horror that might have happened, had an innocent baby been placed in this mans arms, said U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California Laura Duffy in a statement in April.
At his sentencing, Wright faces a maximum penalty of life in prison with a minimum mandatory 10-year sentence, maximum $250,000 fine and lifetime registration as a sex offender.

(6,383 posts)One thing I've noticed, the most fervent, gung ho, involved, etc. people are often the ones that crash and burn later (i.e. Alcoholism, drug abuse, abusive household, etc.).
Those like me, who attend every once in awhile, help out with a church event here and there....well, were all still there.
Someone once told me after a person "showed their true colors", they couldn't believe it. I replied, "I can. No one is that devoted unless they have a divine mission or they are hiding something or have a weird notion that the church is going to magically make their problems go "poof!". Given I didn't see any miracles or something unexplained, knew it would be the latter".

Each story is more awful than the previous, it seems.
I generally don't read them but the problem is, the headline always neatly encapsulates the horror, so just glancing at it is tantamount to reading it
I know, poor me

(5,105 posts)but BABIES? How fucking sick. Where does this shit come from? Are these people so twisted that any form of dominance/torture/hurt satisfies them? Is it not enough for them to torture animals? I grieve for humanity, if you can call it that anymore.

Kind of long but worth reading. You could turn the sentence around-'the little children suffer'.

But how do they get through life knowing what twisted thoughts are behind some of the most innocent-looking faces? I just can't imagine knowing what they know, dealing with what they deal with, and sleeping at night. They are so amazing and so strong. I hope they get a lot of psychological support for the work they do. It's one thing for us to read these words... but to actually interact with him, and to see his duffel bag and its contents... the stuff of nightmares.
Thank goodness for good people.

(21,712 posts)I mean, if we can't identify the problem with a specific label, how can we fight against it?
And for any Christians that are offended by this label, I am clearly referring ONLY to pedophiles that belong to the Christian Faith. I am by no stretch of the imagination labeling all Christians as pedophiles, ONLY Christians that ARE pedophiles.
