Doctor shot near Houston mosque was ambushed, witnesses say

A doctor is fighting for his life after being shot near a mosque in southwest Houston, according to police.

Investigators said Arslan Tajammul was shot around 5:30 a.m. Sunday outside the Madrashah Islamiah mosque in the 6900 block of Bintliff and DeMoss drives.

Witnesses said the well-respected optometrist and longtime member of the mosque was on his way to morning prayer when three men ambushed him. One of the men shot him.

Spokesperson Kaleem Siddiqui of the Council of American-Islamic Relations in Houston said about three men confronted Tajammul.
