Ryan: GOP will hold hearings on Clinton probe

Source: The Hill

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said Tuesday evening that Republicans will hold hearings to learn more about the FBI's decision to not recommend criminal charges for presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

"People have been convicted for far less," Ryan said during an interview with Megyn Kelly on Fox News's "The Kelly File," saying that he thought FBI director James Comey "was going to recommend prosecution" based on the FBI director's opening remarks in a press conference Tuesday.

Ryan said the FBI's decision not to recommend charges "underscores the belief that the Clintons live above the law."

Comey said that while there was evidence Clinton and her staff was "extremely careless" with classified information, "no reasonable prosecutor" would bring a case against her.

I think what Paul Ryan really meant is the House Republicans have held hearings on matters with far less evidence of culpable conduct while ignoring far more egregious conduct that was committed by Republican Presidents. Hopefully, if the House Republicans hold such hearings, there is an examination of the millions of e-mails that were maintained on a parallel private server by Karl Rove in the Bush White House.

Of course, in other news, here is Ryan walking in lock step with Donald Trump again.

- The GOP had a congressional investigation / political fishing expedition that did not uncover a crime.

- They then got the FBI to do an investigation that did not uncover a crime which the FBI felt could be prosecuted.

- So now they want to have another congressional investigation to investigate the FBI to try to prove the FBI should have requested an indictment?

Courts and politics are a bad combination and voters are fickle. Just 8 years ago the Republican Party was allowed to walk away from serious war crimes.

I do wonder what Comey will say about being given the power to recommend indictment while under oath.

Wed Jul 6, 2016, 02:07 AM
Jul 2016

from Salon:

"Even for a Republican White House that was badly stumbling through George W. Bush’s sixth year in office, the revelation on April 12, 2007 was shocking. Responding to congressional demands for emails in connection with its investigation into the partisan firing of eight U.S. attorneys, the White House announced that as many as five million emails, covering a two-year span, had been lost.

The emails had been run through private accounts controlled by the Republican National Committee and were only supposed to be used for dealing with non-administration political campaign work to avoid violating ethics laws. Yet congressional investigators already had evidence private emails had been used for government business, including to discuss the firing of one of the U.S. attorneys. The RNC accounts were used by 22 White House staffers, including then-Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove, who reportedly used his RNC email for 95 percent of his communications."

......"We're going to have hearings," Ryan said, noting Comey did not take questions from the press. "There are a lot of unanswered questions here."

Ryan also recommended that the Director of National Intelligence "should block her access to classified information" as a form of punishment.

"There are a lot of unanswered questions here," Ryan said, though he did would not say that Comey folded to political pressure when asked.

"He shredded the case that she had been making all year long," Ryan said.

Earlier on Tuesday, House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte told CNN's Manu Raju that they were "looking at" holding hearings on the FBI investigation, "but we haven't made any decisions yet."
He had just left a meeting with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy..................

And, it has been what republicans have been doing for 8 years now. They have no advance a single god darned policy measure as a political entity. It has all been them throwing child like hissy fits toward the POTUS and Hillary Clinton.

The House GOP and Senate GOP have done NOTHING, literally, then engage in politics.
