Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clintons campaigns are in talks about a possible event at which Sanders would endorse Clinton, ABC News has confirmed, according to sources close to his campaign.
Sanders endorsement of Clinton could come sometime next week, possibly at an event in New Hampshire.
While the Vermont senator has said he would vote for Clinton in November, he has withheld his endorsement of the presumptive Democratic nominee as the two campaigns engage in negotiations over policy details for the Democratic Partys official platform.
An event next week would directly follow the Democratic Partys Platform Drafting Committees final votes over the weekend on its version of the policy document to be presented at the national convention.

(5,082 posts)You wouldn't make a good diplomat. Or nominee. Sanders had the biggest 2nd place finish in ejection history. If you think those votes don't matter then you must not care about election outcomes at all. You think Reagan wanted Bush Sr as his VP? No. He was scared of him. As was JFK about LBJ as the venom was thick. This time the LBJ/BushSr type candidate won but the formula is the same. You team up to win. And Bernie is harmless. Unlike Bush Sr who was looked on skeptically by Reagans cabinet for involvement. Hillary doesn't have high favorability ratings and although she's lucky Trump is the opposition she could use all the help she can get. She almost lost to Bernie and did lose to Obama so I would check the hubris at the door.

(1,400 posts)At this point, he has waited so long that polls show 81% of his supporters have switched to HRC. In my opinion the other 19% would never vote for her even if he had endorsed her. So what's the point? All he has done is supply Trump (who is too stupid to come up with his own) with talking points against Hillary. Thanks, Bernie, you're a true democrat.

(2,341 posts)A June 14 Bloomberg Politics national poll of likely voters in Novembers election found that barely half of those who favored Sanders -- 55 percent -- plan to vote for Clinton.

I don't know where you get 81%.

(5,082 posts)The Democratic Party used to be one of compassion. Now we are stocked with a bunch of conceited foolhardy bragger a who have nothing worthy to say.

(90,061 posts)This is all happening in the news black hole surrounding the July 4th Weekend:
Obama makes a flashy entrance in the campaign, clearly designating Hillary his chosen successor.
The BIll and Loretta on the tarmac incident, and then Lynch recuses herself, leading to:
Comey's tortured performance, exonerating Hillary while still "holding her accountable", and
Hillary has been moving left on critical issues like TPP & Free College & Health Care,
And Bernie & Clinton are in talks.
I don't know what it is but it looks like something.

(90,061 posts)Get the general started and put the email issue to rest and protect Lynch from the Republicans and unify the party behind a progressive platform that will mollify the Bernie supporters and take the wind out of Trump's sails and stomp the Republicans flat in November?
Then this all looks very timely and convenient. And such pragmatism makes me think well of Clinton too.

(3,072 posts)In the last month I've gone from "give him some time" to "he must be planning this out carefully" to "damn, he is really dragging this out" to "who gives a shit what he does?".
Whatever goodwill he built during the primaries is long since exhausted. I'm sure there are still people out there that droll over his over word but I bet most people would say "oh yeah, what ever happened to him" if you brought him up in conversations.
He can endorse clinton, he can lead a protest at the convention, he can sit home and pout, or he can keep claiming he is still a candidate for the 2016 democratic nomination for the next 10 years. I really don't care what he does anymore.
