Victor Barrio, a 29-year-old professional bullfighter, was killed when a bull's horn pierced his chest in front of spectators as he competed in a fight in the town of Teruel in the eastern region of Aragon.
His death, shown live on television, was confirmed on the website of Madrid's Las Ventas bullring, where Barrio began as an apprentice bullfighter in 2010. He is the first Spanish bullfighter to die in a ring since the turn of the century.
In the southeastern village of Pedreguer near Valencia, a 28-year-old Spaniard was killed during a bull-run, in which people risk life and limb by racing alongside specially-bred fighting bulls through narrow streets.

A pretty sick culture is one that tortures animals as a spectator "sport."

It's sickening that this bloodlust continues to this day.

As I understand it, the meat from the bulls is distributed to charities for the poor.
So is bullfighting that much worse than factory farming?

A well-known matador has been killed during a bullfight in eastern Spain, the first such incident to occur in the country this century.
The fight was taking place at the festival Feria del Angel in Teruel, during an event which was being shown live on TV.
Professional bullfighter Victor Barrio, 29, was killed by a bull which flipped him over with a horn, then continued to gore and push him along the ground.
Bystanders immediately rushed to help but Mr Barrio had already sustained severe injuries. Doctors were unable to save him and he died in hospital.

(26,844 posts)Matador Victor Barrios widow thanked well-wishers for their support today but confessed she was too devastated to say anything.
Raquel Sanz, 32, wrote on Twitter: 'Thanks to everyone. I cannot reply to you, I have no words. My life has gone, I have no strength, although I have a lot of thanks.'
She also thanked her home town of Sepulveda in the province of Segovia north-west of Madrid, writing: 'Thanks Sepulveda. Our Sepulveda. Yours and Mine' and telling her late husband in an emotional message: 'Im sure that where you are you have a privileged view.'

OK, well, there's no way she could have ever foreseen this happening?
And sorry, but I have to over her comment about her late husband's "privileged view". As a Buddhist, I firmly believe he's in the Buddhist hell reserved for animal abusers, being whipped by horse-headed demons until he acknowledges his crimes, and is ready to be reborn as a bull destined for the ring....
