BLM protesters shut down Interstate to Columbia, SC

There was a Confederate flag raising by about 150 today at State House, with a few dozen protestors. Seeing on WIS TV Twitter now that protestors walked about two miles and blocked I-26 into and out of Columbia.

10. Difference between lunch counter & Interstate: first is civil, second is not.

A disrupted lunch counter or a hundred disrupted lunch counter is civil disobedience. Many people are inconvenienced, but inconvenienced only. Some wait staff may lose tips, but even that might be compensated for in a well-planned event.

However, shutting down interstates interferes with emergency personnel, pregnant women in labor, truckers who may lose hundreds or thousands of dollars, and small/medium companies depending on the timely flow of goods.

The latter is not cool. Those organizers need to rethink what they are doing.

For example, they would get just as much publicity if they flash-mob shutdown an intersection downtown mid-day for 5 minutes, and then 5 minutes later flash-mobbed another one and so on for a few hours.

3. Update

Film now online. All peaceful. Police closed Interstate as precaution and rerouted traffic. Apparently not arresting anyone as long as they don't block the roads, but there are a lot of cops on the scene. Good thing is Colymbia has an AA mayor and police chief.
