Donald Trump declared Monday in a wide-ranging speech on veterans reform that he was the "law and order candidate" in the 2016 race.

At the top of the speech in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Trump addressed the Dallas shooting that resulted in the deaths of five police officers last week. In an appeal to police officers, Trump said he was appreciative of their service. He added that the United States needs to "maintain law and order at the highest level or we will cease to have a country. One hundred percent."

"I am the law and order candidate," Trump said.

He went on to say that inner cities had been "totally left behind" and that he would work to ensure "every citizen" lives in a safe neighborhood.
