Source: MassLive.com
Former "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart will appear on Monday night's "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" to assist his one-time colleague in coverage of the Republican National Convention.
Colbert was a regular on "The Daily Show" from 1995 to 2005 before leaving to host his own Stewart produced series, "The Colbert Report." Stewart is also one of the executive producers of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert"
It has not been revealed what role Stewart will play on the CBS late night show or from where he will appear, UPI reported.

(42,770 posts)you see Maher on Colbert last night. He really was pretty assholey. And, you could tell Colbert was not allowed to agree with him (mainstream)

(42,770 posts)at all....reminded me of my ex-boyfriend - hyper defensive.
Colbert must be torn (although he seems to be basking in
the glow of being a network star). He can't go too far (injecting
personal beliefs)...so he comes off "off" to me.

(81,220 posts)It was a beauty! MAN! He was terrific jousting with Chris Matthews - who was clearly outclassed.
This, next Monday night, is "Must-See TV" in every sense of the word! The ratings are gonna go stratospheric!

(237 posts)Maher always seems to be in asshole-mode on most shows, other than his own. Funny with his New Rules, but with interviewers he always seems to have a chip on his shoulder and can't just go with being "funny".

(14,173 posts)I love Bill Maher, but he is getting more and more defensive. And that is not funny. I especially find it odd that he likes to always say things like "This is why I hate liberals.....blah blah blah" when he is only really talking about a small minority of self-described liberals in comments where he criticizes overly PC hand-wringing. He himself calls himself a liberal ffs.
But overall, I love his show and the unmitigated scorn he lavishes on Trump and all Republicans and usually has at least one right winger on the panel so we can watch them squirm.

(47,470 posts)He was actually good there. And, for a change, Matthews was civil, did not shout him down.

The clouded sky is now serene,
The god of day the orb of love,
Has hung his ensign high above,
The sky is all ablaze.
The gods of small things political have indeed smiled upon us.

(26 posts)...but I'll stay up late to watch, anyway, as I would not ordinarily do for anything connected with the Republican convention. (Wait -- am I going to watch the Republican convention??)

(2,574 posts)Colbert has yet to understand his own relationship to the Dem establishment. One the one hand he's on CBS, which is no longer the network of Cronkite or even Dan Rather but full blown corp right. Also his sister has been a Dem candidate in SC. So there's that. Then he's got his Daily Show/Colbert Report genes against "truthiness" on the other side. He's got some weird belief he has to represent "both sides" (eg. The Maher interview, where Colbert backed away from supporting the importance of BLM and fell into the BLM vs police Foxesque false opposition and the Clinton "liar" bit)
Letterman used to just let his opinions rip, so I think people expected the same consistency from Colbert. Maybe teaming up with Stewart will bring Colbert a little more comfortably back to his comedic and ideological roots. Fingers crossed.

(3,867 posts)Colbert is not near as funny on CBS as he was on COM, probably due to restraints.
I view the late shows by the guests, I like all 3 funny men
I remember Maher on ABC, before Disney took over. I thought they were cowards for getting rid of him, too hot to handle.
