As soon as she is elected, MA could define the timeline for a special race. Warren would remain through the lame duck session, but would resign before being sworn in as VP in mid January. When Kerry was confirmed in late January, the Governor named a Senator and in June. Election day is almost 3 months earlier than when Kerry was confirmed. (Even though he was a pretty sure confirmation, they could not start before that. Obviously there is no confirmation for VP. So, 3 of the 5 months needed for the special election of Markey will take place with Warren holding the seat.

If all this is correct, the Republican appointed will be there for about 2 months. There are many Democrats who could win.

Plus, if Democrats retake the Senate she will be a truly formidable legislative ally to President Hillary Clinton just where such allies are needed the most. She´d be much more effective in pushing Hillary´s legislative agenda than if she were Vice President (a largely ceremonial post).

Besides, the last thing we want is to have Charlie the tuna name her successor.

She would bring, among other things, her experience at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (which she helped create) and of course as one of the nation's most popular and recognizable senators.

And while she does represent Massachusetts, she's also a strong-willed Southern woman (Oklahoman, born and bred) with a compelling life story millions of Americans (including millions of Republicans) can relate to. Salt of the earth, as everyday folks say.

She can also help unite the party like almost no one else can. It's no secret that while most Bernie voters are now with Hillary, if just two or three million of them migrate to Jill Stein or Gary Johnson it might be enough to tip the result to Trump. Preventing that is of utmost importance.

In short, she brings plenty to the table. It's just that she can do more good by staying in the Senate.

We can all like who we want to like. We can get excited about the different candidates, whether she will pick the candidate we prefer or not. Where is there a problem with that? All are capable but we CAN have our favorites.

I've gone from adamant "NO! We Need Warren In the Senate!" to "Yes - Clinton / Warren is the dream team that will pull out the greatest number of voters; thus bringing the greatest down-ticket wins for the Democrats." The Sanders coalition would, theoretically, lose their pout-factor, and campaign in support of Warren.

We'd have to hope that Massachusetts has not forgotten the Scott Brown Mistake, and would elect another viable Democrat to replace Warren. We'd also have to hope, and this is a BIG hope, that the local and national Democrats would have an electable candidate warmed up to run in the special election. Unfortunately, my faith in the Democrats' ability to refrain from shooting themselves in both feets is not very strong.

But, add it all up, and I think Warren's strengths as a Vice President running mate are worth it. Joe Biden didn't fade into the woodwork; I doubt that Warren would, either.

And, if the worst happens: I think it's a miracle that President Obama has survived thus far without being murdered. I've feared for his safety throughout both campaigns, and the duration of his presidency. Hillary Clinton has been a target of irrational hatred for decades. I fear that she may not survive the campaign. And, she's got a Gabby Giffords target on her back for as long as she's president. If some Trump - inspired assassin kills President Hillary Clinton, then Elizabeth Warren would be the avenging angel that we were deprived of when Bobby Kennedy was shot.

Risking a senate seat like this is beyond stupid. Republicans aren't incapable of winning in Massachusetts. 2010 and 2014 proved this.
