Erdogan Seeks Asylum in Germany: Report
Source: The Daily Beast
Turkish president Tayyip Erdoğan is reportedly seeking asylum in Germany, as a military coup continues in Turkey, U.S. military sources tell NBC News. Erdoğan's presidential jet was allegedly denied landing rights at Istanbul's airport, before heading out of the country. Addressing Turkey via Facetime, Erdoğan asserted declared, I am president, and vowed to crush the opposition forces.

It's been seven or eight years that the fight with the courts has been going on. I hope the army consolidates and then gets the judges to help them form an interim government to get back to some sort of normalized status.

(111,243 posts)Erdogan wasn't the first man who thought he was king and likely won't be the last. The country is structured to allow the military to intervene when a strongman takes over--or tries to.
I don't know what the last straw was, although I suspect it was the attack on Ataturk Airport 2 weeks ago. Erdogan has been very soft on DAESH. Then again, he was going to put in a new top man at the military and the military was having none of it.
CBS has suggested the Gulenist movement has had a part in this, also.
It's moving so quickly that nobody knows much of anything for certain, only that tanks have rolled through the streets and there has been gunfire and it looks like a few bombs have gone off.
I'm hoping for the best outcome there. I've known Turks online as intelligent, educated, and wickedly funny people.
