Clinton campaign: Pence 'most extreme' VP pick in generation
Source: MSN/USA Today
Donald Trump has doubled down on his most disturbing beliefs by picking Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his vice presidential running mate, said Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta. In a statement, Podesta called Pence the most extreme vice presidential pick in a generation.
According to the statement, Podesta said that Pence: was an early supporter of the Tea Party; personally spearheaded a religious liberty bill that legalized discrimination against gays and lesbians (which he later revised); and he was a leader in the effort to defund Planned Parenthood as a member of the U.S. House.
Podesta called Pence an incredibly divisive and unpopular running mate known for supporting discriminatory politics and failed economic policies that favor millionaires and corporations over working families.
He also cited Pences opposition to raising the federal minimum wage and a statistic that incomes in Indiana are stalled at 38th in the nation, calling him no economic leader or friend to the American worker.

The question is that do issues really even matter? So, what if Trump/Pence would favor huge tax cuts, appoint right wing judges and deny climate change, and be hostile to women and minorities? Isn't the main issue that affects people's lives whether a sixty plus politician understands proper IT protocols with respect to the handling of e-mails?
Personally, I don't know where everyone else works, but I find the division managers at my warehouse to be the most knowledgeable with respect to the handling of e-mails and proper server maintenance, which is what I look for in a President.

(14,449 posts)Newt and Christie would be a help to Trump. Pence is not going to help at all. Hillary HOPEFULLY had a staffer write that up. Hillary will talk to said staffer ASAP.

Trump propped Pence up. Hillary (and her staff) are obviously correct to attack the empty suit Pence.

(14,173 posts)A True Believer is always more dangerous than a Con Man. Because a con man, like Newt or Christie, will sometimes at least go off the straight an narrow for political opportunism or money. Like Christie welcoming Obama's help for Sandy, or Newt siding with global warming scientists. They will "evolve" on issues if they think it will get them elected, even if they are considered "liberal" positions.

(59,501 posts)Remember Cheney as congressman had voted against honoring Nelson Mandela and against the school lunch program.
It is interesting that growing up in Southern Indiana, he started with heroes of JFK and MLK jr. He was born in 1959, but he said he was moved by Ronald Reagan. This means he never voted for the Democrat in a Presidential election - as he was in high school and under 18 in 1976. (The county was consistently Republican going back to 1968 - http://www.homefacts.com/politics/Indiana/Bartholomew-County/Columbus.html. Unfortunately the source goes back only to 1964, which was a landslide - but it was very comfortably Republican long before Reagan. In fact, at least since he was 9 years old (1968).
From his bio, he was born into a family of Irish Catholic Democrats, but his religion is listed as evangelical -- and his policies seem to reflect evangelical values (very conservative) rather than Catholicism - especially Pope Francis Catholicism. (Note obviously, I am not speaking of abortion or gay rights here, but that Catholicism has strong values of social welfare.)
He is as extreme as Palin on climate change.
It likely is true that he is MORE dangerous than Palin as he is not as easily written off as she was -- even though he is very extreme.

Well, I suppose hyperbole is the language of politics.

(10,418 posts)He shares their ass backwards views, he's good buddies with the Kochs, and packages it all in a veneer of sanity that Palin clearly couldn't muster and Cheney didn't even try. Trump supporters will buy right into it, "Hey, he's the straight man of the duo."
