Trump aide takes responsibility for Melania speech

Source: USAToday

A Trump aide has taken responsibility for the controversy over Melania Trump’s speech, saying she offered to resign but Trump rejected it.

In a statement released by the Trump campaign, in-house staff writer Meredith McIver said it “was my mistake.”

"In working with Melania Trump on her recent First Lady speech, we discussed many people who inspired her and messages she wanted to share with the American people. A person she has always liked is Michele Obama. Over the phone, she read me some passages from Mrs. Obama’s speech as examples. I wrote them down and later included some of the phrasing in the draft that ultimately became the final speech. I did not check Mrs. Obama’s speeches. This was my mistake, and I feel terrible for the chaos I have caused Melania and the Trumps, as well as to Mrs. Obama. No harm was meant."

Meredith is Trump's ghost writer! Can't fire her. She writes his books for him! Now Melania, well -- she is expendable as we have found out.

They spent over 24 hours denying that the speech was plagiarized.

This concept was actually touched on in a discussion yesterday on CNN (i.e., the admiration of Michelle Obama). A Hillary Clinton supporter suggested it as a way that the Trump campaign might have dealt with the issue head on and then moved on. She suggested that Trump's camp might very well just say that Melania had drawn inspiration from Michelle Obama, and admit that they used her words.

I don't remember the name of the person who made the suggestion, but it was during Carole Costello's show.

I'd love to know how much money Ms. McIver is being paid to take the fall.

Melania admired Michelle's speeches give me a break. This is their toughest explanation point - cause cribbing political speech isn't that big a deal, but cribbing from the other, supposedly (according to them) evil side's speeches is, well, very weird.

And none of this explains the rickroll. What, "Melania had this song she liked..." yeah, right.

Face it, they were pranked. Pranked by an Atwater/Rovian wannabe right in their midst. And the most revealing thing about the whole campaign is that they CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHO IT IS. So the present day Rosemary Woods is shoved forward, what a joke.

BUT THEY CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHO DID IT. Think about that in light of national security. Fuckin' amateurs.

If the aid was really at fault, she would have been fired. Melania plagiarized the speech, and should forevermore be known as a dishonest person...yes, she is a liar. This 'admission' is just a way for the campaign to try and cover up the major personality flaw of wife #3.

Melania said she wrote most of the speech herself -- McIver has officially made her a liar. McIver says Melania has always liked the wife of her boss' second biggest political enemy -- McIver has officially made her a political ignoramus. McIver says Melania didn't notice that there had been no rewrite of the words she gave to McIver -- McIver has officially made her a bimbo. McIver says she didn't rewrite the words but didn't bother to have them vetted? She should have been fired AND arrested!

Harm was VERY meant -- by the people who pasted those passages into the speech and who should have had it properly vetted. McIver was obviously NOT one of those people, because if she was, she would NEVER have been allowed to resign.

…..paid this underling to take the fall.

Besides—in Trump World, Michele Obama is a socialist, married to a Muslim, Kenyan, worst President in history—so how can Melania "admire" her? It's like singling out Stalin's wife for admiration.

They can't unstep this step into their own s&%t pile.

If McIver is even real - it was either take the fall & keep her job, or go find another job.

Trump surrounds himself with sycophants who are cowed enough to accept such treats as normal.

It is too glaring. McIver tells the whole world, the original idea to include Michelle's creativity in the speech came from Melania herself. So she obviously knew the exact passages and must have also known that the inclusion of such material in her speech without carefully reconstructing the sentences would amount to plagiarism. Yet she went ahead to include those sentences.

As a calculating business man Trump is hoping that Mrs Clinton would cease on the opportunity of this mistake and like him, make disparaging remarks about Melania. That would have the opposite effect on women who see Mrs Clinton as their champion. It would strike a negative cord in their minds that perhaps she is not all that she says she is. He would have succeeded in creating doubt and eventual disconnect. Who benefits?

While Mrs Clinton is running a campaign based on substance, Trump is looking to win through mind games which have worked for him thus far. Must we fuel his ambition?

36. Quite possible deliberate set up- hoping attacks on Melania would backfire on Dems
Wed Jul 20, 2016, 09:32 PM
Jul 2016

Wouldn't surprise me if her speech was a trap by Trump camp. No other explanation makes sense to me with such obvious plagiarism and a rick roll, all those contradictory explanations and the glib reactions by Trump and Donald Jr. who didn't seem the least bit perturbed, but just full of praise of Melania and of course not firing anyone.

I can envisage Trump (with dirty tricks expert Manafort) concocting the scheme hoping that Hillary and Dems would appear mean spirited harshly criticizing Melania. Trump tweeted that it was "Good News" that her speech got more publicity than any speech in the history of politics . His other tweet said it was scrutinized more than Hillary's emails. On ABC News tonight he seemed quite pleased with all the attention towards Melania.

Today's final reveal of how it went down (Melania admiringly quoting Michelle's speech verbatim over the phone) is suspicious while painting Melania in a favorable light above reproach.

Hillary and the Obamas have wisely not commented and Donna Brazile who appeared on ABC's GMA on Tuesday pleasantly made light of the speech voicing pleasure that Melania agreed with Michelle's values and hoping Trump would do likewise in emulating Pres. Obama.

Another possible clue that it was a deliberate mind game is the way Trump's campaign manager Manafort immediately made unfounded bizarre accusations against Hillary in his first comments about the plagiarized speech. Trying to pit sweet innocent Melania against mean Hillary in voters' minds.

What a load of nonsense. If Mrs. Trump was competent she would have made herself familiar with former First Ladies speeches and activities.
There is also the matter of Mrs. Trump's claim that she herself wrote the speech. Either she's lying or the speech writer is attempting to take the fall.
No matter how you shake this, either Mrs. Trump is incompetent and a liar, or she thinks the US people are idiots who would not notice, or most likely, she just did what her husband told her to do without questioning. In any scenario she has revealled herself to be unworthy of the job.
