Munich shooting: Teenage killer Ali Sonboly 'inspired by far-right terrorist Anders Breivik'

The teenager who shot and killed nine people in the Munich massacre used Facebook to lure his victims to a McDonald’s, police said yesterday.

Ali David Sonboly, 18, launched his killing spree in the Bavarian city in an apparent revenge attack for being bullied. It is now thought he targeted youngsters of “Turkish and Arab” origin, having claimed those groups had picked on him in school.

In a raid on his family apartment in an affluent suburb of Munich, police discovered extremist material linked to mass shootings, including the attack by Anders Behring Breivik, the white supremacist who murdered 77 people in Norway in 2011.

The massacre in Munich took place on the fifth anniversary of the Norway attacks and Sonboly had recently changed a profile picture on an online messaging service to one of Breivik.

Someone running a cell-video shouted an "immigrant-slur" at him and he ranted and shouted back "I'm a German born citizen", then he shot himself.

OTOH I find it appalling to expose the family's name. His parents and siblings should have a right to stay somewhat out of public.

Also, where his family is living is NOT a suburb, it is in the centre of the town near the central station. As land prices are skyrocketing, and have been in the last decades, you have affluent neighbours in every part of Munich nowadays.

...but he did engage in his attack on the same day as the Norway massacre. Put another way, who knows what his politics were, but he clearly was emulating the Norway shooter.
