Top Sanders Endorser: 'Bernie or Bust' Only Helping Elect Donald Trump

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) is urging Bernie Sanders supporters at the Democratic convention to come together and rally behind Hillary Clinton or risk electing Donald Trump.

As Sanders delegates hint they could walk out on Clinton's acceptance speech at the Democratic convention, Ellison – who endorsed Sanders– is urging them to think about the bigger picture. "I am just saying the logic of playing spoiler to the advantage of Trump does not make any sense to me if you call yourself a Bernie supporter," Ellison told TPM in a phone interview Monday.

Ellison told TPM that he spent Monday meeting with state delegations and reaching out to Sanders supporters in person and on social media. He said he will continue his efforts on the convention floor throughout the week. And while he supports people acting on their beliefs, he worries some are losing sight of the "real bullies."

Ellison said he is proud of the movement Sanders built, but that if "Bernie or Bust" delegates and supporters aren't careful "they are going to sabotage the whole Democratic process in favor of Donald Trump. I want someone to explain to me how they are Bernie or bust but Bernie is not," Ellison said.

I am happy that I supported Bernie Sanders, and equally happy to support our nominee, Secy Clinton.

I feel, not bad, but very sad about those acting like two year olds with their silly temper tantrums. I mean, yelling down a civil rights speaker with "No TPP!" is just classless juvenile behavior.

Hopefully Keith, Bernie, and others can get them to calm down and get with the program.

Bernie has moved his "revolution" forward. And these Bernie or Bust people will take us back 100 years with the new era of Trump and rounding up Muslims and Latinos, and telling Russia they can have Eastern Europe if they want it, plus all kinds of other crazy racist, anti-women, ego driven BS.

Bernie isn't stupid. He is voting for Hillary. To not vote for the person Bernie endorsed, Hillary Clinton, shows you never really wanted to put your trust in Bernie in the first place. And by helping to elect Trump it shows you ... {can't say it without cursing}

Leave your ego at the door of the convention and elect the person that ends this terrible swing to the right that has already set us back 20 years, and now has the potential to devastate our democracy.

Just imagine some of the things Trump said, and then imagine how realistic the idea of Trump declaring a state of emergency, and using police powers to start rounding people us. Don't be stupid! Come on. Pull it together. Vote for Hillary!
