Debbie Wasserman Schultz leads her Democratic challenger Tim Canova by eight percentage points in Floridas 23d Congressional District, 46 percent to 38 percent, according to a new poll released Sunday by the Canova campaign. However, after the pollsters provided more information about Canova to likely voters, Wasserman Schultz lead was reduced to just three points, 43 percent to 40 percent.
The survey, conducted by the Los Angeles-based polling group of Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz & Associates (FM3), was conducted immediately after Wasserman Schultz stepped down as head of the Democratic National Committee last week. Her resignation was spurred on by the release of 19,000 leaked emails from Wikileaks, which showed top members of the DNC working to boost Hillary Clintons presidential primary bid.
The poll also shows that 52 percent of voters in CD 23 view Wasserman Schultz favorably, with 35 percent regarding her unfavorably, a staggering decline from her popularity in past campaigns, the pollsters write.
Wasserman Schultz has represented her Miami Dade/Broward County district seat since 2004, and been comfortably re-elected without any substantive challenges each time. Canova came on the scene back in January, and his campaign has served as a vessel of sorts for thousands of Democrats around the national who have been unhappy with Wasserman Schultz performance at the the DNC, perceiving that she has been an unfair arbiter during the primary campaign between Bernie Sanders and Clinton, the partys eventual presidential nominee.

Payday lenders get a new ally.

WASHINGTON Payday lenders have been gunning for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau since the day President Barack Obama tapped Elizabeth Warren to set up the new agency. Theyve had plenty of help from congressional Republicans longtime recipients of campaign contributions from the payday loan industry. As the CFPB has moved closer to adopting new rules to shield families from predatory lending, the GOP has assailed the agency from every conceivable angle going after its budget, attempting to tie its hands with new layers of red tape, fomenting conspiracy theories about rogue regulators illegally shutting down businesses and launching direct attacks on payday loan rules themselves.
To date, the GOP blitz has resulted in a few close shaves for the young agency, but no actual defeats. But the industry has cultivated a powerful new ally in recent weeks: Democratic National Committee Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.).
Wasserman Schultz is co-sponsoring a new bill that would gut the CFPBs forthcoming payday loan regulations. Shes also attempting to gin up Democratic support for the legislation on Capitol Hill, according to a memo obtained by The Huffington Post.

(25 posts)The Canova people are using it here to distract from the way their own survey shows him eight points down.
This close to the election, that's pretty grim which means they are resorting to the celebrated Desperate Measures.

A nasty-looking toxic algae bloom on Floridas coasts has oozed into political races, including U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultzs Democratic primary.
Her opponent, Tim Canova, toured the mucky scene in Stuart wearing a surgical mask. He says that Wasserman Schultz shares in the blame for the algae that extends from Lake Okeechobee to Florida coastlines on the Treasure Coast and west coast.
Canova said Wasserman Schultz, who represents South Florida, has sided with the main polluters of the water that flows into the Everglades: the sugar industry.
Wasserman Schultz doesnt "want us to know that she has voted for huge subsidies for the sugar industry and other agribusinesses, as well as for delays in cleanups, while failing to deliver federal funds for any real solution," he said on Medium July 9.

(5,045 posts)Every campaign polls for their own use. Push polling uses slander and deception to influence voters. One example would be to "poll" voters - phoning them and asking how they would feel if they learned John McCain had an illegitimate black child.
Having said that - announcing you are 8 points behind is not great news, unless you had previously been 20 points behind.
