BREAKING: 10 killed as blast rocks night market in Davao City

Source: CNN

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Police and emergency personnel rushed to a night market area in Davao City after a blast ripped through Roxas street late Friday evening.

Firetrucks and ambulances were on the scene to attend to the injured, although they still could not give details about the explosion and the number of those wounded.

Palace spokesman Ernie Abella told CNN Philippines that at least 10 were killed, and around 60 were injured.

Davao Police spokeswoman, Sr. Insp. Catherine dela Rey, said that EOD (explosive and ordnance division) teams were already in the area looking for pieces of evidence.

...Maria, not her real name, now carries out contract killings as part of the government-sanctioned war on drugs.

She is part of a hit team that includes three women, who are valued because they can get close to their victims without arousing the same suspicion a man would.

Since President Duterte was elected, and urged citizens and police to kill drug dealers who resisted arrest, Maria has killed five more people, shooting them all in the head....

Maybe if the government spent their time looking for real threats instead of arranging contract murders, this would not have happened.

(CNN) - Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte said an explosion in Davao City that killed at least 15 people Friday night was an act of terrorism and he placed the country on lockdown, the official Philippines News Agency reported.

About 69 people were hurt in the explosion that happened around 10 p.m. Friday (10 a.m. ET) at the Roxas night market near Ateneo de Davao University, said Chief Inspector Catherine Dela Rey, spokeswoman for Davao City Police.

The market is known to attract thousands.

Duterte authorized the police and military to search cars and frisk people at checkpoints, the PNA said. He put the nation under a "state of lawlessness," saying he has not declared martial law and has not suspended the writ of habeas corpus.
